Title:

DIY.Rik

I am running two strains:

Sweet cheese (Sweet Cheese) Auto

image

Blue Dream (Humboldt Seeds) Auto

image

Coco With my own mixed blend, courtesy to Temple Grower for the help giving me the confidence with this mix I suggest anyone to go look at his post on this.

Used by up-cycling my old coco

I Have started 3 outdoor Autos just as much for a bit of fun, if not to top up my stash whether it goes for the hash pile or the flower jar, maybe the weather will decide? Although i'm in a greenhouse, so they are protected from any bad weather.

So nothing ever gets totally wasted here. I will cook also with any remanding flower/trim. I do love my homemade hash though!

I have had a Hash vs Bud mixed harvest last year (photoperiod) but that's another story! lol

The 3 seeds have started to show their heads already after planting a week ago straight into coco.

I will update with some pictures soon

Medium:

My medium is coco. But I have re-used the coco from my previous indoor grow.

I use potash of sulphate if i get any nutrient problems in flower so I tend to leave the old pots somewhere dry to further break anything left down into the coco, I then sieve out all the coco into a big tub. This breaks up the coco again and you can get rid of any roots and put them on the compost pile.

I then leave it out in the sun ideally (this is the UK!) which in theory will help dry out and sterilise and bugs etc..... If I have any nematodes i will use them.

After at least a few hours of mixing and leaving out to aerate ad dry. I add my mix.

  • Blood Meal (2 Parts)
  • Bone meal (4 parts)
  • Life Cycle by ecothrive
  • Charge by ecothrive (insect frass)
  • Kelp (small amount as I usually use this in flower to top dress)
  • Mega Worm by Plagreon (Worm Castings) I have had mixed results in quality with this!
  • Sprinkle of Great White Mycorrhizae around the seed when planting.

I am aware that when adding these amendments it can heat up and sometimes it's good to leave for a couple of weeks, especially when helping the nutrients to start breaking down.

As I am using my old coco of which I had already top dressed during flower in my last indoor grow, I find i'm usually ok (so far) with not getting burnt out or overheated etc...

Size of Grow Area and number of plants:

I'm in a green webbed PVC greenhouse. You can find them anywhere, Argos or Wilko's. This conceals the grow if we have visitors.

Its around 1m x 2m square of which I also grow chillies and tomatoes too. Further concealment if needed

Pictures will be coming soon

Pot Sizes:

I have planted straight into 8L Fabric pots. If needed i will upgrade to 12L. 8 is all i had to hand.

Ideally I wouldn't ever re-pot plants for Auto grows. As any stress will make good health unretrievable due to not being able to re-veg if needed.

Nutrients:

See above for my mix. (I will try and do a really detailed view of my mix with a link, for future posts)

I will top dress Again in flower. If and when needed. Other than that it is plain water PH to 6.2 with organic lemon juice and bio neutralise

image
image

When I plant straight into the pot. I will water after with microbe tea.

image

I will only water with a pipette and will be very careful not to wash away the seed!

I will not water the whole pot. I will only water around 1"/25.4mm radius around the seed. The seed is only a finger nails deep.

I then wait until it is almost completely dry before re watering.

I will then gradually increase the watering amount as it grows.

Good luck with the grow Rik. The only thing I’ll mention is your seed depth. A very easy and working rule is to only plant any seed twice as deep as it is large. A seed company, Thompson and Morgan, recommends this as a guide on any size seed and it has given me a very high success rate for decades using flower/vegetable seeds and now Cannabis. I hope you absolutely crush this run!

Thanks Monkeydo

I'll be really honest I have tended to have a few problems with them poking through. Tend to have to gently flick around to get them out.

I've ordered some organic riot cubes through.

Anyone had good success rate with them?

I hate waiting for seeds to germinate lol

After being a it lazy and not thinking things through properly I am down to the strongest Blue Dream, last lady standing lol.

One popped through and got burnt and dried out from the sun and another come through but seemed unhappy. It grew to one side even after trying to let it reach for the light.

Maybe bad genetics or maybe the weather got to it. The sweet cheese is a 70% Sativa dominant so maybe also a bad choice for an outdoor grow.

Non the less, lesson learned and I have ordered some auto's with a heavier Indica. Banana Blaze Auto from Dutch Passion. Auto version and they are new on the market.

image

I usually like to stick to the older strains. Proven and oldskool genetics. But I love the indica heavy and banana strain is one i'd love to try.

My remaining one Blue Dream. Soon to add one or two of the Banana Blaze.

I was going to go for a Duck Auto suggested by James. But the Banana Blaze were cheap and I need to keep the cost down and they were hard to find at he time.

The remaining BD is now on a south facing window sill until she is strong enough to go into the greenhouse outside.

Maybe for next time with the seedlings have a humidity dome above them to cover them. This may help seal out the harsh elements until they develop a little more and can withstand this cruel world that they are to thrive in. Good luck with the last lady....should be the tastiest of buds lol

Thanks Colacody. Yes I seemed to skip a lot of steps here. I think it was the magnificent sunshine we had, I seemed to of got lazy lol. Not really given this one much thought. I think we learn more by our mistakes though.

I put a dome over the remaining one at night now.

Maybe I should of done this day and night until the 1st 2 leaves?

Time for another little update.

The remaining Blue Dream is doing very well.

20200506 154351
20200506 154428
20200506 154400 (1)
20200506 154434

Cover crops will need to catch up but I have some more seeds in the mail. Coming tomorrow so they will be straight under the paper towels. If i need more cover i have fake ratten to cover any shadows or anything obvious and also my partner, she already has some tomatoes etc...

Looking a little bigger now. She has mainly been out on the window sill, keeping cover in recent bad weather.

@Fish Talking in chat this AM and the greenhouse I have got mentioned.

@James I will be looking further into solar fans for this. Excellent idea.

I already have openings in the top and bottom as seen in the pictures. This is to let air circulate.

It would be nice to get a small complementary LED to go in there. IP rated so water resistant.

Happy growing and lets hope for some bloody good weather.

Hi Growers.

Just another quick update.

Seeds came today. Got a promo Auto Critical Orange Punch (Orange Punch X Auto Kritical Bilbo.

So I have placed my promo and 1 banana blaze in the towels with a sprinkle of Great White.

image

Image

Above I have placed the wet towels into some zip lock bags suggested by Keeno on one of the You Tube chats.

Image

I will await for a tap root to start and then place them into some riot cubes from growth technology. A new method. i will place them under some domes in the window until they are big enough to pot straight into some pots.

I may order some slightly larger pots for these too......always better to pot up in bigger pots with auto's. Less re-potting the better.

Probably some 12L or more:

I've been a bit slack on the updates recently so I've headed over to get back into things a little.

The pomo seed, auto ciritical orange punch didn’t make it for some reason but my Bananna blaze is going well, that is after she was overwatered. She had chlorosis and I discovered one phrase called wet feet? Getting the seedling too soggy on the root.

Recovering well now though:

20200603 114850

My blue dream I am very happy with. She has exploded in growth here and its almost exactly a calander month since the last photo:

20200603 114636
20200603 114627

The surrounding plants have acted as a good barrier for bugs.

The tomatoes and peppers are a lot easier to rid of the pests and attract them more in the 1st place, or they seem to be.

I have also started to use an organic home made spray to control the bugs.

A near by rose has been full of pests all year. Seeing our local birds use it to feed from i have been reluctant to use any spray or bug removing techniques. The birds seeming more scarce the other day so I preened and dead headed the rose back, cleaned bugs off and sprayed:

1L of water
1 tea spoon of baking soda (not powder!)
2 tea spoon of neem oil
Couple of drops of organic soap

I use this to spray any ornamental plants and surrounding ones in my greenhouse where they haven't flowered yet. It seems to deter them so I keep using it every day or so.

Thanks for reading.

Happy gardening everyone.

Neem oil is a great deterrent and should be used once a week to keep the bugs away when growing out doors Smile Prevention is better than cure and all that 😉

@macky agreed for most things, deterrents are always better.

It's that rose Bush. Can't get rid of it and every time I've been to spray it in the evening the birds are in it eating the bugs lol.

Someone close by has a pond too which I don't think helps. Always bugs when it's warm.

Hopefully moving soon anyway so it'll be a whole new story I'm sure. Outdoors may not even be viable.

I got myself some fungi in my soil.
Bit high humidity with the weather being wet.
So haven't watered it in a few days.
Noticed the shrooms after coming home from work.

@lovetoflyfish Nice one Fish.

They have been re potted in an old plastic IKEA container now lol. These cheap black pots for outside have shot up in price! Demand, means a good thing as lots of people growing I suppose.

Well the Root Nurse fabric pots started to get mould on the side so I didn't want that spreading. So in it went in a plastic tub last night.

I'll update photos soon.

So hoping it will bud out ok, I need more sun! Lol.

Happy growing people.

The black nursery pot shortage is unfortunately a real thing here as well. I would have gladly paid double for the couple pots I needed but there simply were none available anywhere so I opted for the dumpster at a local nursery and recycled a few discarded ones. Hot soap and water followed by a thorough rinse in bleach solution then plenty fresh water to kill any pathogens around. Never thought we would see a black garden pot shortage here!

Get this then.

97p under a £1. So we got 10 of them.

5 PP Poly P so food safe plastic too.

15L or 5 Gallon I think 🤔

We were well pleased with that. I was going to do a whole new thread about it. Lol
