So I’ve heard on other podcasts that growers are going from 12/12 to 18/6 the last 2 weeks of flowering. This is giving the flowering plants a lot more light on the last 2 weeks and the results are bigger flowers. This is supposed to cause the plants to go back to re-vegging but obviously it takes a few weeks to get back to that.  Has anyone here tried this yet?  I’m thinking about doing this as I plan on chopping at day 63.  All of my current girls flowering are 8-9 week strains and I usually try to chop all at once due to my flowering tent is also my drying tent. Any thoughts??

@growdad In short, I don't have an answer. However, the theory seems good to me. For example, with autos, you can get bigger buds by leaving them on 18/6 because the flowering period is determined genetically and not environmentally. All that "extra" light is feeding the plant energy.  I think is sounds like a good idea. Just my 2-cents worth.  Good luck and keep us posted!

@im_sparky I’m going to give it a try on my current grow. Why not. Experimenting is what it’s all about on our level. I’m at 4 weeks now since the flip so I’ll try this in 3 more weeks. I’ll post results in my diary

@growdad if you only have one tent and not enough current stock to get you to March/April, I would edge on the side of caution, maybe only do it for the last week on this run and see how it goes, I like the idea but I’d hate to see all your hard work being undone😉👍🏻

Was just crapping on about this on another thread, i do switch to 18/6 at the end for a few weeks,  cant say with certainty if i got any benefits, but it sure didnt hurt. And reveg takes months, not really a concern as long as you are well into flower. I also move pollinated clones to veg tent after i see seeds forming.

Its what Rasta Jeff does and he seems to produce quality.

Also, i am usually doing it because i have to for some reason or another. Sometimes its best not to fuck with shit though, but if you have some grows under your belt then experiment away.

@southsilly Rasta Jeff is where I heard it first as well and the DGC mentioned it.  We here to experiment, why not.  So I thought I’d give it a try.

Can you ? Definitely, will it do anything beneficial? Debatable. Changing the light back to 18/6 from 12/12 will trigger a response from the plant, that response would most likely be an "ohh the seasons over and a new one has begun" reaction, whilst reveg takes a long time it starts with a hormone shift, so by changing the light back you are telling the plant it is back to the veg conditions and the plant will then slowly start to revert back, key word being slowly. Any benefit from giving them the extra daylight hours wouldn't be massively noticeable imo. If anything I would assume it would cost you money in power and stall the plants final weeks. Cannabis Plants take stress well but in those last few weeks you really want to be looking at helping them finish bulk, the last few weeks are where the most weight is put on. Ideally you want to trigger the response from the plant that it is it's last chance to create offspring and therefore needs to produce more resin and surface area to catch pollen. By changing back to a veg cycle timing you are effectively doing the opposite and still stressing the plant. I'm not saying it won't do anything because it will but it would be more beneficial to look at the intensity of the light given in the 12/12 and bring the temps down a tad, let the plant use its stores with a flush and run from there. If you have enough backup and this run doesn't mean that much for keeping you stocked up it could be a good chance to experiment, but I would be splitting it so you can see if it is beneficial or you are just burning money in the last few weeks Smile my 2 cents anyway 😉

@bubblehok Good points!  The flip back to 18/6 would be at the absolute most 2 weeks and it needs to be done to chop. Once I’ve switched to 18/6, I will not go back to 12/12. Anything after 2 weeks and I will have to worry about the plant re-vegging.

The thought is your getting maximum light to your flowering females that 2 weeks of the grow in which it’s getting more energy hence a heavier harvest.  It will take at a minimum of 2+ weeks to start the re-veg process.

Will this work?  I don’t know, but I want to try it. Experimenting is what we’re all about. I plan on doing this at the start of week 8(all 4 plants are 8-9 week flowering strains) so most of my bulking will be done by then.  My flowering light is an HLG 350RSpec, so I’m only adding a few cents extra everyday for trying this

Of course, I will have to keep a good eye on the plants and chop them if I do see something that’s not right

@growdad that's the game bro, experiment and find out, all these crazy strains and ways of doing things started by experimenting. I wasn't trying to come across as snarky just in my experience that's what I have seen, but I realise there are others out there that get varying outcomes so always good to try something new Smile

@BubbleHok All good!!  Really what’s the worse that can happen? I spend a few extra dollars on electricity. Even if I added an extra 2% to my harvest, it would be like adding and extra 10 grams to my harvest would be worth it. Still cheaper than buying it on the grey market, lol.  I’ll keep everyone updated.  (on another note, I’m thinking about attempting an auto flower or 2 down the road. You are definitely the one I want to talk to before I start)
