Heads up, this is detailed and a long read so if that’s not what you want, feel free to move on lol.
I started these ladies in the 2 x 2, I had bought the full kit from AC Infinity. Ended up feeling like after a few grows It was pretty small so I bought the 3 x 3 tent to have a little more space. And another light along with it. As of right now, these are the largest and most successful plants I’ve had, which is awesome. I did not top them or do much training and I actually just kinda let them grow. I did try to bend over the top stem, hoping it would kinda even everything out but it just grew right back up to the light. Accidentally snapped the smaller plant as it was more rigid but still bent it over a few inches lower. It’s healed and still catching up. Light is roughly 6” away for my larger plant. That’s after raising the light a few inches higher than I thought possible. Smaller one was about a foot or so but was not getting as much bud growth so I lowered the light to match essentially and that did increase growth.
Ac Infinity controller 69 makes it super easy to make sure it’s never too hot or humid. I use an AC unit to make sure it is roughly 68 or 72 degrees depending on when I set the schedule. I use an 19/5 light cycle and have it running from 2000 to 1500. Used to run from 0600 to 0100. I did this to avoid the extra costs of electricity during peak usage hours in my area and it’s the least likely time of day I will be messing with my plant because I have work and family to handle in the afternoon/ evenings. It allows me to focus more on the present and makes it so I can either take care of them in the morning or night when I have less going on.
I used to have the exhaust fan in the top of the tent but had to set it on top to get more space. I don’t like the noise so I ended up routing it out of my bedroom into the room through a cabinet behind me. By doing this and changing the dark period to the day I learned when my lights go off my humidity shoots up to over 60% sometimes. So I only water them in the evening when they wake up or early before work. Also finally ordered the 6” fan pro kit from Ac infinity, which will arrive soon. Then I can use this fan for my younger plants in my 2x2 that I’ve just been sort of lucky it’s not too humid here. With the fans and vent holes open it stays under 70% on its own. But I want more control over it like I have for my mature plants. And to be able to adjust it from my phone in the app.
I use the auto watering pots from Ac Infinity. Usually light nutrients with the water if I am in between feedings. Feedings are done from the top and I drain the water away and use it on my garden outside and clean the auto pots out. And clean the strings to hopefully help the next batch get the nutrients from the bottom also. It’s nice because you can’t overwater water them from the bottom lol. You just water it how often they need it versus when you feel like it. Could be more advanced but for now this works for me.
I don’t like the bare soil look and didn’t want to grow stuff on the soil at this time, so I collected Moss from outdoors while hiking in one of my favorite spots. Split it into as many pieces as I could onto a cookie sheet and got rid of the bugs I felt like wouldn’t help anything. Set it outside to make sure anything that wanted to leave could. I did have to help a few beetles out. Pasteurized the whole pan in the oven for a minute or so. Anything that survived like the spiders and worms I saw later on got to stay, most made their way out onto the floor of my tent waiting to be relocated outside at this point. Nothing affected my plants.
The moss does have a tendency to make it easier for the fungus gnats to hide but I have sticky traps and kill them when I notice them.
So far I’m actually fine with a few here and there. They will eat at the upper roots causing stress and making the lower roots grow more robust. Also the roots literally grow out of my fabric pots for air pruning and they can eat those all they want. A small amount of Root stimulation is actually useful in my opinion. And these plants are huge lol. Which could be considered a pro or a con depending on your situation.
One great thing about where I live is we don’t have too much humidity or an abundance of insects. It can get quite hot for a few months in summer but not long enough to bring out crazy insects or stuff like that. So the ones I come across I can quickly identify the threat level and kill them immediately or simply relocate them outdoors to my garden. I do tend to relocate all spiders and most random little insects I see. I’ve experienced no issues with pests on a major level and I might feel differently in the future. But for now this works for me as I don’t want to kill the bugs I deem a minimal threat, just want to make sure my plants can thrive and outgrow anything. With the exception of sticky traps to prevent huge numbers.
When I tear apart the soil at the end I have not noticed anything out of order. Like insect infestation or weird stuff like that. Just a shit ton of roots.
Anyway I’m in my 10th week of these plants and they were looking like all the hairs on the buds would be turning brown soon. Not that I would use that as a harvest indicator over the trichomes. But based on the slowed growth I knew it was time. I gave them Overdrive and they literally made new growth on the top of every bud and new hairs. Like I’m amazed at how well it worked to literally make it go into Overdrive! It also seemed to make more everything look even more frosty. Like I’m so happy.
I was using Lotus nutrients at first since it was cheap. I wasn’t too happy with the results and ran out in the beginning of the flowering phase this grow. So I looked around and discovered Advanced Nutrients. This is my first time using Advanced Nutrients and I will never go back to anything else. The amount of growth to my buds is amazing. They have a starter kit, which I bought, to get you in the game. They have a lot of additional nutrients or microbes you can get later on as well. I bought the flawless finish but haven’t used it yet. It also helps I’m in soil and only use 1/4th to half the recommended amount. Still has burnt my plants. So I’m working on finding the perfect amount for flushing when I do a full feeding and taking the runoff out and replacing it with fresh water after I clean the base out.
My water used to be from the tap and I would let it sit out to get rid of the chlorine and all that. But I bought a zero water filter/ pitcher and it worked fine until it started smelling like fish. Took me a few days of replacing the water to understand it was actually coming from the filter. 🤦♂️ anyway after that I was like fuck it and bought an under sink RO system. Such a great idea, I feel very privileged to be able to walk up to my sink and get clean, fresh and dependable water. Rather than buying Distilled water or something like that, which I was considering. It’s coming out at about 25 ppm compared to 260 or so from my water softener. And I have the added benefit of being able to drink clean water now. My family loves it also! And it’s made my ice maker have crystal clear ice! Definitely worth the upgrade. I have the RO-90 system from APEC.
Man if you made it to the end of this congrats and let me know if you have any questions or advice! I used to share this stuff with my wife but she gets bored or bothered now depending on what I have to say lol. Bless her heart for putting up with my shenanigans and being here to support me through this in other ways.
Peace
3x3 Ac Infinity grow tent.
Ac Infinity 2x IONBOARD S22, Full Spectrum LED Grow Light 115W, Samsung LM301H, 2x2 Ft. Coverage
Advanced Nutrients; PH perfect Sensi A&B Grow & Bloom. B-52, Voodoo Juice, BIG bud, bud candy, & Overdrive. Supplement with the 3 part Micro, Grow, & Bloom when I water with “plain water” in between feedings. Usually half to a quarter strength for soil. Burns the shit out of your plants at full strength lol.
I also add humid acid back into soil after I flush.
Checked the tops and they were showing signs of being ready. Amber trichomes on the calyx’s not leaves. Lower I left the rest of the plant for more growth and lowered the light as close as I felt comfortable. This is my first time doing a staggered harvest but it made sense for what I have going on. I read stuff last night how it would help my lower bud sites grow larger OR kill my plants and all that, but I saw no negative changes this morning or positive for that matter. I’m guessing I’ll know in about 3 days where it takes me.
As of now I have the settings roughly to reflect the settings of a cannatrol. Shooting for 68 F and 54% humidity.
Also since I DON’T smoke I don’t have to worry as much about a slow drying process. I dry the full plant hanging upside down in about 6-7 days so these cuttings should take me 4-5? We’ll see but curing is definitely important as it makes the smells and affects stronger for vaping. I currently use the Pax Pro. Accidentally killed my Mighty this summer by dropping it in my cooler when drunk 🤦♂️ sad day but I’ll replace one day.
I’m also a big fan of Bruce Bugbee. Love that guy! So much knowledge and insight. I definitely learn/ learned from this podcast and other podcasts but yeah I would say he is a large portion of the foundation in my confidence of growing and wanted to give him credit
Checked today and all the leaves were crispy. Stems cracked as I bent them a little. So I trimmed these 4 small branches and got almost 38 grams. I imagine the will still lose water weight getting me around 34 or so grams. Still not bad for these small branches. Have them curing in my Zip-Zag bags with a 58% RH Boveda pack.
Ground up real nice and I’m vaping some now. Smells
I’ll be honest I grew these without knowing much about them even after research online. As Ethos freebies I wasn’t expecting much but had high hopes. And I actually kept getting a lot of mustard vibes in the smells. Which I don’t like very much and I was disappointed and feeling like I was growing something I wouldn’t enjoy as much as other strains. But I persisted and literally in the last few weeks it turned into diesel and boy oh boy does it smell haha.
After drying and trimming I just ground some up for the first time and it ground up nice but still slightly moist. Since I don’t smoke it doesn’t matter as much that it’s perfectly dry or cured. That’s one unique aspect of vapes. It just has to be close enough from my personal experience. Fresh stuff also has a special flavor you won’t get in cured flower. Which I enjoy the taste it leaves behind in your mouth. Yummy
Anyway Diesel is the main terp here. I’m actually very impressed with how this turned out based on how I felt about it for the first 3 months before the terpene profiles had more time to develop.
Does very well out of my Pax Plus.
needed the space so I moved the larger plant into her own 2x2 until I harvest on the 16th most likely. 2nd smaller plant remains in the 3x3 for now
Chopping this lady down either today or tomorrow. Other one is shoved to the back of 3x3 for now
Chopped plant 1 of 2 today. Chopped weight 2.43 lbs.
New weight 1.85 lbs. So just over 1 cup of water lost in a day
Weight 1.32 lbs
