I found three F-N Caterpillar‘s in my in three separate cannabis flowers . I have Monterey BT spray but I have never used them when my plants been in flower .Will it be fine to use it at this time ? Guessing (3)  sick buds out of 26 plants is not that bad or should I be worried?

I had them on my buds last year and they would eat down the middle of the bud and it would get brown and fall apart. I did not spray anything and did my best to hand pick them off the best I could. It can be tedious and if you don’t have time focus on you main colas. They died or matured about three weeks left in flower as soon as the cold weather came in. I’m not sure but I was told by a local that they become moths so I’m not sure if something lays its eggs on the plants in veg but I was told don’t plant your plants next to trees so maybe they float down from oaks, pines, etc. But they will fuckkkk up your buds if you let them do their thing. Good luck.

Give me three weeks and I bet I will be saying the same thing about caterpillars.

I don’t spray anything on my buds. Although it’s time consuming you can hand pick caterpillars easy enough. Learning what the eggs look like is a great defense. They are generally about a millimeter or less round balls that are usually placed individually on the plant exactly where the caterpillars are feeding. The bigger issue is getting rid of the caterpillar poop out of the buds when you harvest. Bud washing will be needed imo.

@monkeydo , I usually check on my girls in the evening or early morning and I have seen the eggs and pick / squash them with tweezers I also removed damage bud sites with tweezer the best that I could.  I hope that was the right thing to do ? Or should I just cut off the damaged  part of the bud ?

@philmebowls you’re probably doing the right thing. Just keep an eye out for any complications from the eaten areas and be ready to do whatever is needed. If you keep getting reinfected a mosquito netting might keep the moths from laying any more eggs but will reduce the light some. This is new territory for me but very recently when I moved a Strawberry Cough inside I has 2 cut worm caterpillars that it took me 2 days to locate. I kept seeing droppings but they blended in perfectly with the plant. Those damn things sure do have good camouflage.

@monkeydo ,  A mosquito netting wouldn’t be a bad thing with all the heat we’re getting in California. I just wish I could net the whole back yard. I get attack by the ankle biter mosquitoes every time I look after my plants in the evening. And thank you for your assistance on this subject it’s been greatly appreciated.

Found another one and stuck him on the wild bird feeder. Justice was done!

Spent hours looking at plants and so far I found a total of 12 -14 caterpillars . I decided to spray BT on plants. And I will be washing buds at harvest. Hopefully I will get the winning side of this year’s battle if the bud.
