Hey guys, my auto flowers have contracted ants... they are about 23 days from pop I’m growing in a greenhouse. They had thrips from early on and I have been treating with neem ever since... I added cinnamon ,mint leaves and some sliced garlic, the ants still don’t care I am concerned they start farming the thrips... I don’t believe in chemicals please help...also I’m on a budget so I can’t just order fancy things and these girls of mine are some of my only way of acquiring sufficient medicine. Also there doesint seem to be any more thrip damage development. Maybe I’ve seen a gnat or two but I’ve been neeming every 3 days or so... it’s not as intense of an infestation as it sounds but I don’t want it to get out of control.
OK, this might sound odd but let’s build an ant trap. The ants need to always make a round trip to the plants and back to the nest and if we build a barrier, the problem goes away. We learned how to do this very early in the southern USA lol. You will need a container that holds some water, flat and wide is best, like a plate or a tray. Put the flat container in the tent first and put in about 1/2 inch of water. Next find 3 or 4 “legs” to set your pot on. What you are going to do is make your pot an island in a shallow pond. Next put the pot support “feet” in the water to place the pot on. The pot should be above the water in the tray. You are trying to isolate the pot from the surrounding so the ants need to cross water to reach it. Ants don’t swim and generally give up for easier targets.
