Hello,

Think I’ve got a problem with Thrips but would be good to get a second opinion...

Noticed these silvery patches on the leaves.

These are the best shots I could get of the little critters.

Thanks!

Those do look a bit like thrips... and that damage does look suspect.

This is what they look like really close up, as well as some damage that I had a while back. I used Amblyseius swirskii mites to crush them.

@templegrower

Yeah that looks like them to me! Little bastards!

Going to try some neam oil spray first and also pop a few ladybirds on them to have a munch, but if that doesn’t work I’ll get me some of those predator mites.

Thanks man! 🙂👍🏼

Yeah, I should have mentioned that Steinernema feltiae(predatory nematodes) also work very well. They attack the larval and pupate stages of the thrips (and fungus gnats, root maggots, etc) and live in the soil, rather than walk around on top.

Thanks @templegrower

Never would have thought I’d be learning about predatory mites and nematodes when I popped a few seeds a while back.

Every day’s a school day! 😏
