I never thought I would be just starting to learn to grow cannabis at 54 years old. The same could be said for learning how to play guitar. When I was in my teens, twenties, and thirties I hung out with friends that all played music. One of them was good enough I am sure he could have done something with it but sadly became an alcoholic and he lost both ambition and brain cells. During that period I bought a nice Norman B20 but got frustrated quickly and gave up, eventually selling it.

About the same time I started getting serious about growing I bought another guitar because I liked the relaxed atmosphere of hanging out with my upstairs neighbour while getting high and he and another friend play guitar. I have been trying to stick with practicing but have not been consistent.

Recently I subscribed to the Fender Play online course at $8.99 per month and it has been pretty good. I still suck but I know a few chords and parts of songs. The guitar is starting to feel less awkward to me.

So, that is my learning to play guitar while high story so far. Does anyone else like to play while high? Are you average, good, or shitty but learning as I am? Any tips?

@basssman7    I'm 62 and just started picking up guitar for a second try after always wanting to learn. I am shitty at it, I think my main problem is trying to learn off of YouTube. Im like you know some chords and parts of songs. Been thinking about signing up for guitartricks.com, they want $99 for a year but I'm afraid Ill get frustrated and give up. Might check out Fender Play online course and see how I do for a couple months. I will stick it out and try guitartricks and see which I think is better to learn from. Dont give up, will let you know which I think is better in a few months.

I love playing guitar, I suck at it, but still love the experience of playing guitar and singing. Did you know music is one of the few activities that stimulates both brain hemispheres?

I usually go to my girls, open up the tent, put my protective glasses (gotta take care of those eyes) and just start playing. For me is more about the whole experience of hanging with my ladies and just having fun with them. It's not about being the best guitar playing, though like everything in life, practice does makes me better.

I have played guitar for more than half of my life. 20 years, of playing every day...... I am told im pretty good at it 😉 People say "Talented", I say practised hard everyday for 20 years lmao, anyone can do it

Anyway, lads, if you want to be good at playing guitar, you need to learn scales. And i know that sounds hard at first, but just taking a couple of weeks to learn the 5 shapes of the pentatonic scales. This will make you ten times better at playing.

Understanding home modes work is also very important. "Modular and intervallic theory". Again, sound complex, but if you just work on it, for 15 minutes, every day for a month, you'll have it all down and you will be the best guitar player you know.

But 15 minutes atleast every day, its important 😉 This is how you get good Smile Keep at it lads, i know it can be frustrating but with practise, it becomes normal. You will hear songs in your head, and just play them. Like you hear words in your head and write them. Just takes practise.

Been doing it for 35 years. Macky’s advice is correct. 15 minutes every day and you’ll be playing before you know it.

Absolutley what Macky said.....just 15 minutes a day. And the scales....they are super easy to learn once you try them....being able to rip up a scale over a loop pedal is the absolute favourite thing to do while high man. Once I got so high and closed my eyes while soloing over the loop pedal and actually felt like I was flying.....best feeling ever once you can run a scale from the top to the bottom of a guitar over every 6 strings....keep at it guys and just practice for those 15 min a day....that's all it takes. I cant play chords for shit tho....I have these big meat patty hands that just dont like to cramp my fingers together but I tell ya.....hammer ons and pull offs with some bends in there.....completely soothes the soul. What ever your style is and how ever you like to play.....just keep playing. It will become second nature when you pick up a guitar and you will greatly increase the quality of life when you can strum a tune for your soul while your high on your own home grown! Fist Bump

Do better, feel better.

Used to play okay between the age of 16-18, was even in a band and got to be ‘band of the month’ on the Big Breakfast show called ‘Wise-Up’.... we got slated by Jarvis Cocker (that’s my claim to fame) 😂

I recently bought a new guitar and have started learning again. I’ve mostly forgotten how to play but the chords are still there and I still love strumming a nice tune and having a sing-song. Good for the mind, heart and soul me thinks... and my two little girls love playing along with their little Ukuleles 😏

@woolieback

She was one of the presenters at the time, but they came to our school to do the recording and so sadly we didn’t get to meet any of them.
