I understand that if you analyze the EC of your runoff it can help to adjust the nutrient level to suit the plant. This is something I’m hoping will help me better understand what my plants needs are. My scenario is growing 2 plants with 2 separate automatic watering systems. I fertigate 5 times daily. In mid flower one plant,White Widow, is getting nutes at 1.4 ec and Northern Lights is getting 2.2 ec nutes. The runoff is 2.9 EC, seems high. I really apologize for the flashback to nightmares in maths class. What is this telling me, more water, ,more or less nutes, or something else. I know this is crazy deep but I’m interested. Is there a relationship between runoff EC and plant needs?

Fertigating five times a day usually means you can get away with a higher ec than  normal in coco. But thats still high.

IF the feed going in is 2.2 but its coming out at 2.9, you need to lower the feed and flush the plants

you need to get some of the salts out of the medium, so flush it with water until the run off is coming out about 1.8, then re feed at that level (1.8)

The plant will maybe show signs of deficiency as it adjusts to the new level, and the ec will continue to rise for a few days in the run off, as the nuits will leach out into the medium. But after a few days the plants will be much happier at 1.8 than 2.2 Smile

@Macky  Got it. This is a question that I had a few weeks ago but got crazy busy at work and never got around to posting it. Plants lived through the condition and are currently on calcium fortified water at about .o2 ec for flush. I guess they really do want to live. It might have changed the yield for good or bad but maybe next time I’ll try to get it better. I noticed that during the stretch there was less runoff and near the end of flower there was a lot more runoff. Auto watering is really good but I do loose daily contact with my garden. Still learning Macky. More water at lower EC on future grows, can do. Thanks mate, much appreciated.
