I see a few other sites promote sts to make fem seeds
why choose Colloidal silver over sts.
i don’t know how sts works either tbh
I know there must be a good reason otherwise you guys would use sts whatever it is.
so lemmie in on the secret 🤫 😆
@mix, after reading up on this last night, I have no idea what STS is. 😆 But there's Colloidal silver and another one, I can remember the name maybe it's STS. The reason most people talk about colloidal silver is because it's the most used and easily available. That what I was told. Commercial growers probably/maybe use something else?
@woodi2 I think he means silver thiosulphate mate. STS is said to be more effective that CS and can get things done faster. But using either one is fine. It just depends on which one you have access to easier. But it really doesn't matter which one you use, you get the same result. Colloidal silver is easier to get so people tend to use that from before the days of amazon where you could get what ever you want in a few days. But nowadays since its easier to get people use STS, but really, they do the same job so use what ever you can get IMO, it wont matter too much

Silver Thiosulfate is a water soluble chemical mixed from salts (silver nitrate and sodium thiosulfate) that is on the caustic side. You must keep it stored in dark bottles and in the fridge because it is photo-reactive. If my memory serves, it is harder on the plant, but applied less -- one and done. It takes its toll on the plant, causing it to look like hell, but in a few weeks you get female pollen.
Colloidal silver is made from electrolysis, must be applied very frequently. I don't recall exactly, but I think it is once a day for a month or more. Typically you keep up electrolysis in distilled water until you reach a EC of 28-32. It also takes it toll on plants, but less so than STS. It also produces less pollen, but it is cheap, easy, and effective.
Hope that helps!

Just a quick correction since I am beyond the edit window of my post: although I have heard some breeders talk about using STS once and that's it, most apply every 5 days for a 2-3 weeks. The reaction is strain dependent and some strains require a more dilute solution than others because of the burning.
