It’s a preference not a must.

@mix, all plants in my little garden is different and needs different attention, my soil grow I try not to defoliate and the hydro it seems I have to defoliate or that could just be what's been happening the last couple grow. Could just be some real hair strains in the hydro, then since I don't defoliate the soil by the time harvest comes it has usually lost most of it leaves away, or that could be all me. 🤣 So yes I do both. lol

I just think it’s hard on a new grower they show there new photos & someone says have you Defoliated yet as it comes over like they have to were as I think it would be well easier on new growers to learn to grow first then decide 😋

Oh right. I kinda wanted it to be a conversation rather than a question.

It is really a plant by plant basis, and each individual setup, strain, genetics, growing medium, lighting, airflow all come into play. Some plants can be left alone and be fine others will benefit form a good defol to improve airflow and open up some sites otherwise covered. While it is not an essential activity it can improve the quality of your plants and the end result if utilised correctly and efficiently as all training methods can. Is it 100% necessary? No, Is it advised to do in a large amount of cases? Yes. The biggest mistake I see new growers make is taking far too many leaves off and or taking them at the wrong time. As with most training techniques defoliation is something that takes time to develop the understanding of when and how much should or needs to be removed in order for the crop to flourish. My 2 cents anyway

@bubblehok yea agree totally like topping some plants don’t mind it some do, the totally agree part is talking of to much or at the wrong time do it at the wrong time & you can diminish your harvest.
yea lol I’ve seen them vids were they almost demolished the plant talking of to much Sticking to only talking 10% off at a time should be more known 👍
In my case, it took me several grows to "get it right". At first I was following the general internet consensus that fan leaves are not wanted. That gave me low yields and marginal quality. Then it was take off nothing and see what happens... larfy buds resulted. Percy's got me on the right track imo and thanks to some more experienced hands the knowledge was passed down. Always remember that it's your grow so you can follow others advice or not. Grow it the way you think is best.

i do like my ideas being challenged when someone knows or thinks differently. You don’t learn,go stale otherwise. You can get stuck in your ways we all do it so it always helps to challenge yourself.
