Questions Harvesting CBD Strains

I'm currently growing two CBD Auto Blackberry Kush ladies by Dutch Passion and getting near making that decision when to chop. Previously I had just waited until I saw some ambers then wielded the knife. However it occurred to me that perhaps CBD only plants might be treated a little differently. An internet search revealed nothing conclusive, but there was suggestion they should be chopped earlier, with milky but no amber trichomes. Anyone any thoughts ?

Time to grow old disgracefully.

@toploader Well that is an interesting question. I think the problem is there has not been a lot of research done due to prohibition. I have no first-hand experience with this, but a paper by Golombek et. al. indicates that CBD can degrade to psychoactive compounds when stored in acidic environments. This suggests, but is not conclusive, that if one wants to avoid the psychoactive effects, you should chop earlier, but again, this is inconclusive since it does not exactly address your question.

The citation is:
Golombek P, Müller M, Barthlott I, Sproll C, Lachenmeier DW. Conversion of Cannabidiol (CBD) into Psychotropic Cannabinoids Including Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC): A Controversy in the Scientific Literature. Toxics. 2020 Jun 3;8(2):41.

@toploader I treat them the same as my thc plants.  Growing CBD Hemp for flower, as the plant matures the THC content will start increasing so farmers test and chop before it crosses the .3% threshold. basically chopping slightly early.  unless that's a concern to you i would chop at your preferred time.

Thanks chaps. They're looking pretty milky at the moment, but suppose another week won't hurt. Damn !! 😀

Treat them the same way, but shoot for cloudy over the amber, you should get a few amber but your not looking for the same ratio, personally I will be looking at the overall development of the buds being the hairs have receded and the calyx have swelled and the trichomes are mostly cloudy, then I give them a few days of straight water to flush any remaining salts out of the coco and chop em Smile

I feel like a, like a slice of butter... melting on top of a big-ol' pile of flapjacks... yeah.

@bubblehok I hear ya. At my last look most trichomes were pretty cloudy. It's a soil grow, so no problem with salts. I think this coming weekend is going to see them get the the chop !! 😀

Chop one top down week early to see if u notice any difference. Everybodys body is different so theres no shame if ur body likes less amber weed overall.

Good weed

@juglans that's not a bad idea mate. See what the difference is 👍

Yeah i assume your growing for yourself so find out how you like it. I ve dropped people with "3 weeks raw" dank. Half of trichomes clear half of them cloudy. And it might take 3 weeks from that point to 10-20% amber trichomes. Street weed is never amber here. ✌🏽

@juglans well initially I was turning it all into oil for my wife, however my own dry vaping requirements have been increasing of late 😀

I'm going to have a closer look at preparing buds from this grow, as the Mrs can have the trim 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
