Hi everyone new grower here completely confused  haven't started yet have coir perlite at 70/30 considering using living soil instead for first grow as don’t have a ph meter yet to check my levels but from what I saw online the city closest to me was quoting 7.62ph which doesn’t sound good.

I'm still blind with a few things how much do you water based on pot size? I was told it's 10% per litre so 1.6 x 4 in my case but that seems a little low to me.

I want to put all my information in on the Canna website but I'm unsure what's relevant.

My ec is 317.

My pots are 16l

If my water ph is to high would it be better to use a living soil for my first grow?

The complexity of all this is stressing me out a bit. 😂

I just want to jump in but don't want to f*ck up my plants or waste my time.

The complexity of all this is stressing me out a bit.

You're making it more complex than it needs to be mate, which is easy to do as a new grower 😉 It is much easier than people make it out to be. Especially if you use living soil mate.

Living soil would take less work, but it is expensive to start as its like £35 for 50 litres, and your pots need to be about 25L in volume.

When it comes to watering, there is no set amount, it will depend on too many things, temps, humidity, size of the plant, when it was last watered. But its simple shit really mate, you water the plant when it needs watering, you just learn to recognise the signs Smile

It would be cheaper to just get a pH meter then move to living soil i think in your position. If you already have the coco and nuits, then stick with coco and spend the doe on a pH meter rather than living soil.

Start a grow diary here and we can help you every step of the way to mate, you're not alone here, we are here to help Smile

@macky Do you start seedlings off with nutrients or does that cause issues?
My biggest concern is having a decent nutrient table so I know how much to add and not hurt my plants.

What's the best way to jump in? No pH meter buffer atm, should I wait for it to arrive before starting?

@macky I think for my first it might be easier so I'm leaning towards the living soil as may be a lot less work starting out.

Adding nutrients everyday I think might be a bit of a ball ache.

My ph buffer just arrived was going to check ph but don't think I have distilled water.

@macky Do you have any recommendations in terms of price and quality? I was looking at dr organics but I think it's £50

Although saying that I'd need 25l pots so would have to use more and spend more.

Ffs!!

Why can't anything be simple!

@silentbutdeadly224 I dont suppose you have any way of collecting rain water where you are do you, im just using soil from a field and watering with 50/50 rain/tap water. Iv been growing for almost 2 years and iv never checked the PH yet.

Checking the PH would probably be better for getting the most out of a grow I would imaging but iv not had the arse fall out of a grow so far 😆  It is better going by the book but that might be another option if checking the PH seems like too big a task. I thought it seemed too complicated for me, that doesn't take much tho.lol 🙂

@stootie Not really mate. Live in an upstairs flat so I don't think that's really doable.

I might ditch the meter just use droppers if it's doable.

@macky I'll probably stick with coco just because of money I can't see a way to buy 50l worth of super soil with then getting 25 litre pots and not spend too much money. I'd only get a couple plants out of it too.

Seedling wise you still add nutrients with coco?
