Hello!
I am about to make a big switch and grow straight in a coco perlite medium.
I Understand that coco must be watered daily and it must never dry out. I have all the nutrients needed to grow in coco so im not worried about that, What worries me is the amount of daily water every pot must need.
I understand that 10% runoff is optimal and that every plant / root system is different. But, Is it possible to have an estimate?
For example Right now we are running on 15L pots made out of fabric for good drainage.
How many liters of water should we daily pour in these kinds of pots? Filled with coco and perlite.
An estimation could help me with a starting point and then I can start testing what is more optimal for the plants.
Thanks!
Depending on the growth.
My Plant in 12 L drinks nearly daily 1L it is water - feed - no water.
I have nearly no run off and the bit I have is sucked in 30 mins.
But if small it does need less.
Plants are like children - always surprising you.
Bottom watering takes two hours to suck in but prevents fungus flies.

The best solution to fungus gnats that I have ever seen is very simple, cheap, and works 100%.
BTW, I answered you questions in the other thread where you asked me originally.
One cautionary note, coco NEEDS to have runoff to flush excess salts from the media. I aim for 20% or more myself just to keep the plants thriving and growing fast. If you don’t flush the coco the growth rate will be significantly slower because the roots have to deal with waste salts buildup.

As a rule of thumb I always over do the feed quantity wise, I get way for a 15 ltr pot I normally feed 5 ltrs per feed, that way you wash all the old and replace it every day good and proper, and I never have any deficiencies, correct ph is the key I feel to getting the feed right, the plant will do all the work once everything is provided and the correct ph is giving the plant the correct tools to do the job

@monkeydo yes I understand runoff is very important!
I have been watching videos and diff watering techniques, also started to practice ahead of time with ports filled with just the media, Ill get a hang of it but I will always aim for runoff to flush everything out. My new babies that Im going to grow have just shot out in my seedling station, during this stage should I still water till runoff? I have seen people that say just to spray a little water with an atomizer during seedling stage.
Thanks!
Reviving a dead thread. But this coo business seem to be drinking a ton!
Folks, for a fully grown plant what would your estimate be in terms of daily feed, considering im in a hot environment with temps is the mid 30's and RH @ 50%. I maybe staring at upto 6-8lts a day for a reasonable runoff with every feed. Is this reasonable ?

I am growing in 9 L airpots with Coco and they easily take 2.5 L twice a day
@jsh1973 Wow. Ok so Im growing in 25L pots, so thats a bit then. How you managing nutes expense ? Just is or making your own ?
@meisme hi mate , My last grow I was in 22l or 25l can’t remember but anyway I was only watering 7l a day but really I could of watered every other day tbh . Nutes are inexpensive I haven’t even finished a litre bottle of canna a/b on my last grow so it does go far .
