Multi-faceted project:
1. Use 12 reg (hard to find) seeds to find enough fems to run 4 in the RDWC tent.
2. Use PhenoExpress early sexing tech to determine females from #1 after 10 days post-sprout.
3. With any two extra females (or clones of 2 from objective #1) to make fem seeds.
Today I started germinating 12 seeds. I have no idea how good or fresh they are. All I know is that they were hard to find and expensive as shit. At the end of this, I want to be Johnny BlissfulWizard Seed and spread the goodness.
Nice one, Iv been wanting to try making fem seeds since last year and iv still not got round to it.lol Good luck man hope you find some good ladys there 🙂
12/12 popped and now they are all in their plugs. Fingers crossed for a high percentage of seedlings! They are in a 2x2 cabinet currently under an SF-1000. In two separate 2 gal DWC bins. The plan is to sex them after 10-12 days after emerging. If I get 4 females, they go into the RDWC 4x4 and I will cut clones to breed. If I get more than 4, hopefully 6, I can cut out the cloning step.
Quick update: all 12 plants are up and have a single set of true leaves, though some are really small. I am thrilled that we got 12/12 to come up! Next step, wait until the leaves are an inch long before snipping little tips off for sex testing. If that's done next week, which is my guess, then I will hold a beauty contest where we all choose which 4 girls go into the tent and who goes into the sex room for breeding.
So far, so good!
Next report will be just before or just after sexing. Thanks for stopping in!
They're big enough to be sexed - I was told by the company who runs the tests that they want the first leaves to be 1" on each side in order to do it. I will drop off 12 samples tomorrow to find out which are boys. After that, I will work with @monkeydo to let Percy's people help decide which 4 go into the RDWC tent and which one gets to be my guinea pig with seed making! Seven won't make it, sadly.
While the girls are off being sexed (I love how that one reads), I did some cleanup and setup in the tent. I upped the air this time, so I am at 38 l/m, which is a pretty big increase.
Nice going @matommy, hope you get the results you want. Nice to see another hydro grow. Is yours a PA system from Gary? Good luck man. 👍
OK, I ranked the plants by robustness at this early age. I put #'s 1, 3, 4, 5 into the tent, and held out #2 for breeding later in this cycle.
The four who are going to be my fall 2022 run are in their forever home and I can't be more excited!
OK, an update. I still have 8 mutants on my hands but they are seeming more and more normal as time goes on. All three or four grow diaries for this strain mention that it is a weird plant to grow. Also, I am seeing this weirdness in all eight plants I have, which are in RDWC, DWC, and soil. They're identical.
In my experience with DWC, every plant hits a point where it turns from growing seedling to fast-growing veg. These gals did that a few days ago. I think they have at least 6 nodes each, but honestly it is a little hard to actually count them because the new growth comes in so compact and crinkly. But I am going with it.
Since they are at 6+ nodes, I am going to top them above node 3 and strip them for a mainline grow. I'll do that tomorrow. I need to get this show on the road since I have to be curing (post-burp!) for an extended trip in mid January.
On the seed making front, I am bending these girls all over the place because their space is very small (it is a short 2x2). I started spraying the growth tips with Colloidal Silver and flipped them two nights ago. This is the scary part for me, just because I have never done it.
If I get pollen from them, I have two more of these growing in their own tent. They are still at 18/6 and I will wait until I have pollen or almost have pollen before flipping them.
That's more than I usually have going on, but it's a busy fall and an off winter.
I'll post another update next week!
CHANGE OF PLAN! After thinking through my timeline, I decided I don't have time for a proper manifold. So I decided to experiment a little.
I FIM'd one plant:
I topped one:
And simply LST'd the two smaller ones:
I want to flip them ASAP. I am thinking next week, but if anyone thinks that's too soon, I'm listening.
Another update. I am convinced that this crop will either be amazingly good or amazingly bad. The texture of the leaves is still really thick and rich. I mean, look at the density of this growth:
I flipped them to 12/12 and did some bending and got rid of some of the big, distorted fan leaves that were blocking light. They still look super-strange, but I can begin to imagine that they will actually grow buds.
Here they are post-LST and defoliation:
And here is the group photo:
I continue to spray the silver on 4 or 5 specific future bud sites on two girls in another cabinet, but there are not any signs of flowering yet, only 7 days in.
Recovering nicely from the bending. Looking forward to a nice stretch.
I like your pic of the fim, iv still not tried that. I was never sure where exactly to do it. Im picking up all sorts of goodies here. I might have to break the seal on the bottle of colloidal silver soon too.haha nice work man 🙂
Whey hey look at u go bro !!! Im too dull to do hydro lol. Thats why ive gone to the ecothrive lmao. Can't wait to see these at the end
OK, it's been too long since I posted an update. I will do this in two posts: one for the RDWC part, where I am trying to grow these super strange plants that seem more and more like cannabis all the time, but still a little off. In the last couple of weeks, it's been pretty normal grow stuff. Ph around 5.8-6.2, EC in the .650-.700 range. Stable Ph and EC that's falling nicely. Seems pretty locked in for the last couple of weeks. They have been drinking more than a gallon of water a day, which is a lot compared to previous grows in this setup. They are stretching as they should. Still pretty short, but that's fine with me! They are showing some pistils and clear pre-flowers, but no "real" flowers yet.
I'm a touch over two weeks from flipping them, and they got too bushy and the humidity was running high, so I did some defoliating and lollipopping to get them ready for real flowering and the good part. It feels like they want to explode, and I hope I didn't overdo it with the defoliating. I think they look ready to rock.
Here they are, one at a time:
This one was FIMmed:
This one was topped:
This one is the runt of the litter and was FIMmed.
The rest of the pics in the following post (I hit the limit apparently).
