Two babies starting. Decided to germinate the Pineapple and Moby earlier because they might take longer to finish. I will start the other two so they're a week behind.

Also trying out AutoPots because I spend so much time away.

First experience growing in soil indoors. First with living soil. First with Autopots. What could possibly go wrong??

@matommy Oh perfect!,I was going to get a couple pineapple express & the purple punch seeds!! not to mention your set up is very similar to how I have mine, same size tents & same lights,& I too am using "super" or "living "soil I'm using CoM (coast of maine) soil I switched to Gaia greens organic nutrients (Per another grower advice he uses it n said it performed good w/ his plants)  I am using them because I didn't like the way my girls behaved w/  the CoM nutrients plus I was having some issues w/ it & another percy fellow grower suggested Gaia greens he uses it so that's why I decided to try it, & I like it &  so do my girl's !  I'll be following your diary very closely  Sweaty for any tips or issues you might encounter .One thing I found out was the super or living soil's do run out of nuets around 30 days in & you need to start adding nutrients (top dressing) to the super or living soil's.I found this out  the hard way ,when on my last grow my girls were suffering do to lack of nutes in their soil.anyhow, Good luck! can't wait to see your beauties as they grow ,please post pic's (this is only my 2nd auto grow so I'm learning as I Grow too,  Scared so any advice is welcomed )

Nice selection. That Moby Dick is a personal favourite of mine.

Be prepared for soil growing my fellow organasist it'll be a challenge. Even though you plan to not use any nuits have some basic things at the ready incase they're called apon. Get some Epsom salt and baked egg shells crushed as your organic calmag. I roughly add twice as much Epsom to the crushed shells but that's a rough starting guide to tweak to how you like it. Fish emulsion is your best friend in organic growing and be sure to feed your microbes some of that organic black strap mollasis as they loveeeee that shit with the occasional top dress after pruning with worm castings.

The down side of organic growing is that you can't just flush and reset when a problem occurs and adjustments are slow to take effect which could be disastrous. I've even had to go to drastic measures of nuking my soil with peroxide and killing all living organisms just to halt root rot. If that ever happens have some salt based nuits ready to take the lead.

Apart from that welcome to the world of juicy organic weed lol

@improper_weed_viking Oh no, you're scaring the shit out of me, lol. My goal here is to play around with autos and have some variety while relying on my RDWC setup for the more "serious" crops. I went with Sohum, autos, and Autopots so I could have some fun with autos without too much hassle.

So I guess I will be an experiment in "low touch" living soil/autos growing because I am away a lot. But I will keep you all posted and it sounds like I will need more help than I assumed.

I love your last sentence: "aside from that, how was the play Mrs. Lincoln?"

Super-quick update. The babies are doing well. Now a week into those, I started germinating the Gelato and Purple Punch. I'll keep you all posted.

Another quick update. The Moby and Pineapple are looking pretty good. And the Gelato and Purple Punch are up and running. Purple was a little leggy and I used a twist tie to make sure she didn't plop over, but she is holding her own now and I have a fan trained on each plant to help them stiffen up their stems.Purple seems to have stopped stretching and is now focusing on growing leaves. Once the leaves are wider than the Solo cup, I will transplant into the living soil and AutoPot.

See you next week!

Everyone is in their forever home now. Seems like Pineapple Express might be ready for some LST, but I haven't decided how much I will do this time. The AutoPots seems to be working. I haven't watered anyone since initially giving each of them a circle of water (about a cup) on transplant day. The soil feels dry at the surface and a finger length below, but they look happy so I am not going to mess with them.

As a reminder, the Gelato and Purple Punch are both a week younger intentionally, to try to maybe get a little closer to lining up harvest time.

Update. Everyone is doing great so far. The soil is dry to the touch as far down as I dare to dig, but the girls all seem happy and well-fed so I am leaving it alone. My first experience with AutoPots but they do seem to work!

I have done a tiny bit of very light LST on the bigger (because they're a week older) girls. The internodal spacing of Moby Dick really limited what I can do without risking snapping the stem. The Pineapple Express is kind of a beast and is more receptive to LST. But the design center of this grow is low effort, so I am trying not to do too much.

See you in a week!

Here we are a month in. As a reminder, this is Sohum living soil in AutoPots, which water for me. The goal was near-zero effort, and so far that's what it's been. I did a little LST, but nothing dramatic. I am amazed at the AutoPots. The top layer of the soil is always very dry to the touch, but the plants are drinking a ton by the amount I put in the reservoir. Here's a pic of all of them.

PXL 20220927 144547647.MP

The one thing I am seeing is what looks like either light or nute burn. If it's nute, I'm screwed because I don't know how to take nutes out of soil! I have been steadily raising the light so we'll assume that's the problem.

Here's what it looks like.

I'll have a more detailed strain by strain update next week!

Iv seen people mentioning autopots before but I never really knew what they were for if they were pots for using in hydro grows or soil. So you've cleared that up for me.lol Nice one they sound like a handy thing to have. They seem to be doing a good job too, your plants are lookin good man

I usually end up with a bit of nute burn on most of my plants and it does look a bit like that, It wont be getting any worse is it? I wouldn't think it's anything to worry about unless it keeps getting worse.

I would thought the leaves would be curling up and trying to shade themselves if it was the light burning them but I could be wrong 🙂

@stootie I don't want to shill for AutoPots but they do it for me since I travel quite a bit and am away for several days at once.

I think you're probably right about the nute burn. I will keep an eye on it and hope for the best. This is by definition a low-effort grow so I am just going to play it out and see what happens!

Dear Diary,

Still seeing the burn, but it is looking more and more like @stootie is right about it being nute v light burn. Today's pictures show that it is now happening on another plant which happens to be the next one to go deeper into flower. I'm going to just keep an eye on it. There's not much to do about it..

Gelato, which is starting to flower in earnest, hence a burn.

PXL 20221004 104010401.MP

Mody Dick, who I am thinking might be further along by now. Burn just starting.

PXL 20221004 104006179.MP

Purple Punch, just getting going in flowering. Burn just beginning.

PXL 20221004 104002260.MP

OG burner, Pineapple Express. Lots of fried tips but she seems to be otherwise OK. I am looking for those buds to bulk up a little bit.

OK, overdue update. What a fucking shit show I have going on here. To remind, this was an experiment in AutoPots and living soil (Sohum in this case). The promise from the hydro store near me was that I really could grow autos using nothing but Sohum and water. Welp, it is not looking like that was true. Recall that AutoPots work on a common reservoir (the first time I ever spelled that word right on the first try, hell yeah), so tuning one of the plants involves top dressing (?) which I don't know about. So I added 1/4 dose of GH Trio (flowering ratios) to the water in hopes of helping. It seems to have helped a little bit.

One plant at a time.

Gelato - this one might be the least shitty of the bunch so far. Here are the pics post-defoliate:

PXL 20221017 171301207.MP
PXL 20221017 171253707.MP

Purple Punch - shitty little not really flowers. Since I added the nutes, they seem to be showing a little more life but I can't see how this is worth a damn ever. And it looks like the nutes might be burning this one.

PXL 20221017 171231874.MP
PXL 20221017 171226591.MP

Moby Dick - this one looks decent too.

PXL 20221017 171241483.MP
PXL 20221017 171237623.MP

More pictures and what the hydro store is telling me in the next post due to limits.

Pineapple Express - grew really really fast, then yellowed and is basically a dead girl walking. I got rid of tons of dead leaves and branches that will never amount to anything. I am keeping it just because there's no cost to seeing how it pans out. But what a disappointment.

PXL 20221017 171246664.MP

When I told the hydro store about this, my hypothesis was that my getting 2.2 gallon pots was a mistake and I can't really grow autos this way. They swore up and down that this was incorrect. Their story is that the AutoPots are so awesome and efficient that they enable the plants to use up all the nutrients in Sohum faster. I call bullshit. I still think 2.2 gallons is a pretty small pot.

I would love to hear any other ideas and I am happy to provide more context or answer any questions!

@matommy From that I understand most bagged soils even water only will only provide enough nutritional value for 30 to 45 days so if it was feeding heavy it could have ran out of nutrients. Did you add any additional inputs?

@honkykong Yes, I added GH Floro Trio at 1/4 strength to see if that helps! It seems to have.

@honkykong Not sure yet. I have never grown these strains. The Gelato and Purple Punch are a week behind the Pineapple and Moby. I am guessing 4-5 weeks but not sure. They were germinated on 8/21.

@matommy I feel you have enough time for one more feeding and I would up it to 1/2 strength and ride it out till she finishes.

@honkykong If I did the initial feeding last week and I have until mid November (guessing), when would you do the second?

@matommy you want to leave roughly 1 to 2 weeks of only water at the end so the plants can finish up taking anything they can. With you having a potential nute deficiency you might be able to feed once a week 1/4 dosage till the last 2 weeks. Just Remember you can always add but it's harder to take away. Cal mag is another good point as WOODI2 suggested

@matommy, I don't know about this auto pots but if your getting a positive result with the GH then stay with it but move slowly cause that how she moves, very slowly. Like you say, why not, you could easily start seeing results in a few more days. Do you have any Cal/Mag, I thought I could see some spots on the top leaves? The yellowing looks like she was wet too much but could be depleted soil, do you really know what's in the soil? I built mine and that doesn't mean it right and I don't think it is !! lol But 2.5 gal pots does seem small for just water and no more additions.

@woodi2 Thanks, man. I think the AutoPots do a very good job of managing water/moisture, so I am thinking I ran out of nutes quickly. I am going to see how this helps. I am used to hydro where I can affect big change quickly, so this whole slomo thing is hard for me! I'll drop a little CalMag into the res too.

Growers here that have had good success with Sohum soils are using a 5-gallon pot minimum. I've seen several very good autos in Sohum soil and water only, pot size is key though. Can't believe the hydro store sold you 2.5's and said I'd work. Don't listen to that guy anymore lol

@monkeydo Exactly. I screwed up by going that small. But that's why we love this, because we're always learning. Just some of the lessons can be really expensive..

Anyone wanna buy my 2.2 gallon pots? j/k

Here we are, a week later. As a reminder, I tried to use living soil with pots that are way too small. Lessons learned!

I shitcanned the Pineapple Express. I let it go too far before fueling the soil. Oh well. The idea with this whole grow was low-effort, low-investment. This is by far my shittiest grow, but that's how science works - some experiments work and some don't. At this point, it is just about getting something to smoke out of the grow. I have already learned a ton of stuff that I will summarize when this one's done.

Some details by plant:

This one is the Purple Punch. I'll probably pull it today or tomorrow. It's taking up space, but it won't amount to anything.

PXL 20221025 145903681.MP

Here is the Moby Dick. I don't know how much of the yellow is fade and how much is nutrients. Not great, but I think I'll be able to salvage something from it:

Finally, here is the Gelato.
