Seeds:

Dangleberry Jam & Heavenly Illuminations

Medium:

90l Eco-life supercharged potting soil and i've added Dr forests organic fermented Bio-char 5l  this is going to be the base for the garden.

image
image
image

Growing area:

60x60x160cm Secret Jardin HS60 ( Not impressed was a new purchase as it gave extra height than other 60x60 tents, as cheap tents goes it feels cheap very thin compared to other tents i've had and the intake socks are only single thickness were as others i've had have been double socked. So far do not rate.) Going to be growing the 2 plants in a 20 gal pot and is going to be my first photo run normally grow autos.

Lighting:

Migro Array 2 Pro Red 120w LED, looks the bollocks hopefully does the job.

image
image

 Extraction:

5 inch intake from outside decided to put a hole in the shed wall and drag in air from outside as i dont think dragging the air from inside the shed was helping at all. Also got a 5 inch extractor fitted to a fox carbon filter, which i'm going to mount outside the tent on this run so as to give me more room inside. Both fans are Black orchid cheap  but do the job and are pretty quiet.

image
image
image
image
image

as you can see i've been collecting bubble wrap for some time now so i can insulated my walls and around the tent.

Nutrients:

Going to be using Ecothrive Biosys, water in every 2 weeks ,Charge, top dressing every month with the odd foliar application and lifecycle as a top dressing. Will also top dress with the fermented bio-char and do weekly foliar sprays of aloe vera powder. Have also introduced 250g of tiger worms and 100g of dendras to help look after my soil. For now they will get half an avacado and on my second run will be introuding avacado tech hopefully boosting my soil biology.

image
image
image

Other Equipment:

2 Heaters on thermostat plugs

humidifier on a rh plug

6 inch fan

ph meter (but not really planning on using it as after talking to ecothrive and doing a bit of digging with the water company my water should be ok) but will use neutralise to get rid of the chlorine and chloramine.

60x60 plastic floor tray

image

Plan for Grow:

Planning on topping both plants (maybe more than once) with some LST and going to be using a scrog for the first time. Also going to take cuttings so i can get practise and grow 2 out in the polytunnel this summer and hopefully keep 2 mother plants for inside the shed. That way i can grow the other seeds out a find a keeper from both strains if i like em. But this is if i can get another shed up to put my shed stuff in then i can have a grow shed 🤣

The eventual plan is to also grow most of my amendments and inputs sourced from local to me i.e the straw mulch, calcium from the free range eggs we get from a local farm (which we eat loads of) and this in turn should help reduce my carbon footprint at least when it comes growing cannabis.

So far i've set up everything i can and i'm just tring to get my room dialled in. I mixed up the bio-char with the soil then added the cover crop of red, white and crimson clover, alfalfa, rye and vetch. I then added the malted rye powder (to feed the micro organisms and help create a good environment)  and scratch it in the surface a bit.

image
image
image

I then introduced my worms and covered over with alfalfa chop mulch mixed with hemp shiv mulch and covered that over with barley straw. I then watered in 10l of water with biosys and i'm now keeping an eye on the moisture and making sure my environment is pretty stable before i pop my seeds.

image
image
image

I also need to go and pick up some more ducting and gorilla tape as the white stuff is pissing light out of it so will be letting light in and i need to cover my switches. Should hopefully be popping my seeds in to solo cups tomorrow and adding half an avacado for the worms hopefully the will get in there get some good nutrients and fats and also start reproducing. I am also going to be making a worm composter out of 2 25l buckets which i will post on percys at a later date.

@zn still not popped the seeds yet can’t make my mind up weather to do straight in the bed or small pot first the less interference the better I’m thinking

@3plantspete Ilike to use 500ml pots of Canna Terra to start them off, can let them get a half decent root system before I give them the Sohum as it can be a bit hot for them so young

MASSIVE FAIL RIGHT HERE!!

A little update for you all and I’m after a little advice. So just over a week ago I put 1 of each of the seeds in 9cm pots. In a mixture of the eco thrive soil, some seedling compost, perlite and a little malted barley soaked the pots in some biosys and popped my seeds in. Today after keeping it moist all week I went digging coz something didn’t feel right I found little tap roots but no case and I was very careful. I did find the seed cases along With a few of my worms. I also found some little white worms and some white flea jumpy type things 1st question are they springtails? Or something I don’t want in my soil? Also are the white worms good? I think I’ve seen somewhere they are but unsure. I’ve managed to get a picture of the worm but not the flea type thing. Also anyone suggest what’s happened to my seedlings? Soil too moist or worm/bug damage?

448104EA 2C99 4254 82BF 1C467DC37FAF

I really hope everything isn’t fucked up before I’ve started going to go and plant 2 more seeds directly into the bed and hope for better luck this time🤞 And to top things off my intake fan (new) stopped working in the night, so I’ve sent it back and a new one should be here by 7. God bless Amazon! I thought I was having a bad week but this has just capped it off! Cheers in advance for any advice would really appreciate it 👊✌️💛

Think the white worms are pot worms and probably came with my other worms. And the pots were too wet I think...... Rookie era on my part😞🤦‍♂️

@3plantspete hi mate

so not sure what the white worms are .. maybe just pale but the pic looks like a slug ? I can’t see that well and am in a small screen so could be way off there !?

the jumpy bugs sound like compost fleas or the ones I often get in my wormery if it gets too wet..

not really sure of friendly or foe but pretty sure they are not described in any list of beneficial I’ve seen so prob not desirable !

As far as germinating those seeds.. I think for the first couple weeks at least the seed just needs a simple potting mix / compost as the seed carry enough nutrition for at least a week for the sprouting seed.. I don’t think the rest (charge / biosis/ worms) are going to benefit a seed and may cause damage in the case of worms..

It’s also possible the soil becomes compacted by watering around the seed so it can struggle to germinate and push out..

Have you consisted germinating some seeds prior to sowing them in the soil so you know they’re going to be ok? The paper towel method for instance ..

then transfer to small pots to grow on before transplant into final bed / pot

I think your seeds have become sown too deep and in too wet a soil which has become a little too compact for the seeds?
worms also can damage / eat vegetation when they have nothing else to eat or if I’m too high a ratio to the plant size in the pot

hope this makes sense and possibly sheds some more light on what might’ve happened bro ?
good luck with the next beans

ps it’s also incredibly easy to break the top off a germinated seed when digging around a pot of wet soil looking them btw - have done it myself more than once !

@chillbert I think what ever the worms are and the rest could have come in the worm bags. That white thing at the side is the root I don’t think I have slugs yet. The compost flea thing might make sense again the worm bags. The seeds I think is down to me soaking the pots too long and compacting the soil. They’ve gone straight into the bed this time so well see what happens. I don’t soak in a paper towel anymore as I had more success straight into soil, with the autos anyway. And the biosys it’s advised to use from the off at least that’s what I was told. Thanks for the advice chillbert I shall keep an eye on things and cross everything 😂

@3plantspete hope they pop up soon.. sowing straight into the bed has some good advantages for sure 👍

I’m using same amendments with my grows too atm and getting to know how to get the best out of them but not there yet..

good luck buddy 👍

The soil will be wya too string for seedlings mate. Try using a couple of hand fuklls of coco in the middle, and plant the seed in that. This will give the root some time to grow and itll be able to take the strong soil better. It happens when youre in living soil man, young plants will take a while to adjust to it

@macky I thought that bro that’s why I mixed it up with some seedling compost on my first attempt, think I compacted the pot. they’re in the bed now mate we’ll see how they go. If that doesn’t work might get the peat cube things. Then I might have to buy some more seeds off ya🤦‍♂️ On the plus side tho my cover crop is doin great 😂😂😂

And there off! Plants are amazing things, popped the seeds directly in the bed last Friday and last night when I went to fill up the humidifier they where both sat lookin at me. I checked on em yesterday before lights went out and no sign, 9 hrs later bam I had these two beauties. I’m always amazed when that happens going from nothing to an inch or two in hours.

The taller one is the heavenly illuminations and the smaller the jam. I pretty happy that the both sprouted at the same time hopefully they will work well together and I have what they want in the soil or to hand. I’ve got my hands on some really nice worm castings so when they are a bit bigger I’ll put some around the base. I have tho seen a few little creatures at soil level of different varieties which I have no idea where they have come from, maybe the straw or the mulch or maybe eggs in the soil who knows. But I wanted a little eco system in effect so hopefully it will balance itself out when I get settled in. And will keep an eye out for pest problems nothing in the sticky traps yet other than arm hair and straw so🤞

Just a few short days on and it’s clear I’ve got a little invasion going on already!🤦‍♂️

EAB9B736 8ECF 49AA 9F78 C9A3504F7DE7

It could be from a number of things, soil, straw, door being open when I’m in there,my soil being slightly wet due to me overwatering last week. only added 2 litres and ended up with run off but I’ve learned from this and I’m waiting till the underside of my bed is a lot dryer before I add anymore. If my seedlings tell me otherwise then I will water cautiously! Unfortunately because of this I’m unable to add the nematodes I have for this pesky problem. At the min I don’t have loads or any flying about so hopefully they’re being caught on the yellow paper and not getting chance to mate. I’ve sat looking at the soil bed this morning and only saw 2 alive so they are no more and  have been squished between my fingers. Other than that the seedlings look pretty happy

In the last photo does anybody know if the two things sticking up are fungi? If they are I’m pretty happy means the soil is alive 🙌 Not up on my mushrooms so don’t know what they are. Also anybody using a migro give me any ideas on light hight at this stage, I have it at 10% and at 18 inches but it looks to low for me.✌️

@3plantspete

hi mate looking good there getting your living soil bed up and running! 👍

Use some nemasys nematodes to banish or at least limit you soil gnats population.. is working best for me atm btw

defo looks like little mushrooms to me, prob harmless and just dong there thing cos conditions are good for them

At first I have my migro at 2 foot for seedlings first day then straight to 12” and they grow like fcuk 👌

that’s at 75%-100% power btw

seems close but just keep an eye on and they should be AOK

happy times 👊

good luck bro

I’ll post a pic later if you like ?

@chillbert cheers mate, thems the nematodes I’ve got l, like I say soils a bit wet yet tho😞 you had em on 75% from the off? I think mine looks so low because of my other equipment being so high up. And you had it at the 12 inch mark too? 👊

@3plantspete

75 from the off for a couple days, then 100 % at 15 inches (mine are in first few days and they’re dong well under these settings )

You could also have em closer and turn it down to save elec but the dimmers are hard to be accurate with I find

Think you’ll like the kinda stacked nodes the light helps produce ! Great for height control too

Well I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.... If it wasn’t for bad luck I’d have none!! Went into the tent this morning and the heavenly illuminations was bent right over with a nice crease possible split in it. I’ve tried supporting it we’ll have to see how she fairs🤦‍♂️

91709672 B296 40AD B16F 83B9D6C6183B

Ive now lowered my light down to 12inch and at 50%power, also put some new sticky as fuck traps around the pot which was harder work than it should have been.

B0E84C3B 3A00 4E89 88FF 57135C323AE5

And a quick mushroom update, yes they were mushrooms

78656A15 A56C 40D8 A7B7 A2F0313B9DEF

And the jam looks very happy along side them

Now off to plant some spuds have a good day Percy fam👊✌️

Day 16 I think in veg and they’re looking pretty good. I’m wondering if I have my light a bit low as they don’t seem to be putting on any height and at the minute the nodes are pretty densely spaced. The HL is coming on pretty well but the DJ has some markings on a leaf, I’ve check underneath for bugs and can’t see any. Also my rye grass is going white on the tops I’m suspecting either a nute problem or again possibly the light anyone any guesses?

Gave them a foliar spray of aloe Vera tonight half a teaspoon to a litre of water, went in half hour before lights went on to spray and move the light right up and turn it right down, let’s hope they like it ✌️
