This grow currently sits 5 days post soak and 3 days in the mix.
Using Osmacote organic soil with a mix of Yates blood and bone and Verasoil worm castings throughout combined with the slow release granules I plan to try and not touch this grow with any salt based nuits if I can help it. CalMag with be roasted eggshells with Epsom salts (hopefully only salt I'll need).
Liquid feed will consist of tap water declorenated and pH'd with black strap mollasis twice weekly and will be looking at compost teas.
First 2 pictures are the first 24hrs after breaking soil
Nice, it's always good to see another diary starting up. Good luck with your grow mate 🙂
So I was poking about on the Herbie's site and went back to look at if I could get anymore info on this strain as previously the only thing I could see on the genetic ladder was BCN selection but now it's been updated.
This lady is a cross between critical mass and critical Bilbo so it's got me excited to see how it'll turn out.
Sorry but as soon as I saw Bilbo I couldn't help but laugh and think "yeah" . Most ppl associate Bilbo with lord of the rings..... Not me, I think of Randell in Clerk's 2.
G'day , Viking ,I'm doing kinda what your doing I thought I would try the grow dots or beads or whatever you want to call them I'm using the powerfeed tomatos and veg controlled release plant food . My soil mixture is one part local organic potting mix supposedly water only and one part Coco coir, some worm castings a bit of perlite not a lot though and that's it. I never pH, I use water straight from the tap, sometimes I give them a feed but probably Quarter strength and mostly did when they started to flower but generally water Have a Bruce Banner and gg#4 both responding well all through the grow been easy ,even the heat didn't slow them down What slow release are you using?
With this one so far nothing, just what's provided in the potting mix as a slow release and just watch and see how it grows and if it shows me it needs anything. But want to try and build a microbial home down there so I can steer away from salt based
Ok I should have picked up on that, osmocote of course, Im trying the controlled release ferts mainly to make things easy ,I really wanted to see if I can get away with just watering so far My two autos gg4 and Bruce Banner on 22hrs a day have been great all through out the grow no deficiency no bugs they looked nice and green all throughout veg , they are getting close to being done now and look and smell beautiful it was very easy. This was kinda of an experiment with the controlled release fertilizer and these were autos it went well so I'll give some photos a run and see what happens
Update time start of week 4 veg.
With the issues I've been having with the dodgy potting mix I've used in both this and my NL run I decided to use zero nuits on this guy and just see what's going on.
It's germ was a bit ordinary, I actually pulled on a strand of something I thought was a piece of coco but was attached to the stalk and tugged a little to hard and upset the roots which I think has caused me to lose vital veg time as it recovered.
A fortnight later and growth has been slow so I'm not sure if I have a sick auto or a normal fem. Still on zero nuits for now but noticed discolouration and shrivelled bottom and second set leaves. 3rd node started to grow and threw a duel set of branches on one side lol I have a sick/normal mutant now.
Starting out week 3 it was just a week of pH'd water and watching to see if the deficiency was traveling further through the plant which didn't really seem evident so I started looking into using different veg nuits instead of the nitrosol I had been using with varying results (outdoor plant loved it but indoor not so much) and settled on using Charlie carp organic. First feed was 24hrs ago so now it's back to pH'd water and watching.

Ok so this grow went south bigtime. Same deal with the growing medium as the northern lights but much worse. Organic nuits with trace elements did not much for her and at first I thought it was a photo with it's slow growth. But right on que at week 5 and barely being a foot tall it went into flower.
Now currently at week 7 end and the poor thing was absolutely ravaged by gnats to the point I just nuked the soil with a peroxide rinse just to be rid of them.
Week 4 flower (lol)
Ok so I got budz lol not much to report on this as I have basically put it in the corner to let it do it's thing. As with the northern lights any attempt at me correcting anything results in an unstable swing in the other direction due to the shit medium it's growing in. Personally I think this company hasn't don't the potting mix right and the medium is still biodegrading and striping elements from the medium in its process.
No real nuits regime for this grow as she just gets the dregs of the zkittles nuits and a bit of mollasis.
It's a real science fair grow, almost a micro grow imo. It's not going to yield much but I'm interested in what it's turps will produce.
Anyhoo, have some pics.
Good stuff mate It's not always about seeing how much you can get off them, sometimes plants in poorer conditions can deliver some amazing stuff. I had a plant in my cupboard under shit lights, no fan, hardly any heat and whenever I over watered my other plants and there was some runoff... she got it to drink.lol I only got about 40g off her but it's double what I was expecting and it's the best smelling weed iv grown yet. good luck man im sure she'll deliver something tasty for you 🙂
Week 5 flower.
Ok so I've been a bit harsh on the BCN. I've treated it like a dying interest at best and joked about it being a minger of a grow.
It decided to get back at me this week by transforming itself (what was left of it) into what it was capable of.
I wept, Jesus wept and mother Mary gasped when mid week I opened the closet to find one of the nicest looking flowers that's starting to go into shades of purple with a whitish wedding cake feel to it.
I got 2 more in soaking as we speak to go into the super soil mix after seeing this.
Week 6 flower.
Pretty much coasting only on water and a little mollasis at this point, senescence isn't far off so it can start eating itself and doing it's thing.
I'll take a moment to reflect on the grow and what I did with this plant to really stretch the genetic fibre of stressing an auto and pushing it hard towards herming out on me.
It grew sick from the get go due to me being to rough and hands on with it and a deficient medium. As you'll see from the pics it was always looking sad. Switching to organic nuits through flower really improved the health of the plant but unfortunately yeild is shot to hell. So with that and a "nothing to lose" attitude I got brutal. First I stripped every fan leaf but the top sets. Then waited a week and lollypopped the bottom of the plant.
No Herm and if anything the plant looked much happier for it 🤷 ruderalis, with a stable enough genetic they can be treat just like a normal pheno. Anyhow have some pics👍
Week 7 (delayed)
All done and chopped and dried.
Very small yielding plant for a XXL but that's on me.
Flowers didn't fill the stretch due to me being still a noob when I put the grow medium together and didn't have my finger on the pulse of what was needed. Regardless, what I did get to smoke was really nice.
Has a very earthy taste just like you've grabbed a handful of really rich soil and ate it, but on the end of the exhale has a nice lemony tang. That taste on its own makes me want to grow more of this strain so stay tuned for the critical XXL redemption run coming soon to a Percy's grow room near you!!
