Hi,

I'm a first time grower and just harvested my first plant yeah :D.

Though one stem seems kinda off..

What is wrong with this stem? The others are all fine. This didn't occur until few days before harvest.

I must admit I didn't water my plant for about a week or two because I've read somewhere that would be better before harvesting and simply because of the fact I wasn't home. I was planning on not watering for a week, but I guess it was more like 2 weeks of no water.

I just assumed it was dried out but I'm kinda doubting it could also be bud rot..

Is it possible it's just dried out because of the severe lack of water?

To me it seems like it's just very much dried out and everything shrunk so you can only still see the white stuff (that's on top of every bud, that white powder looking thingy) and the shrunken bud is hiding underneath that because the white stuff is more packed because of the shrinking. It doesn't look like mould to me or anything. But I thought it might be a good idea to check for a second opinion before trying to smoke this possibility funky shizzle haha

That one cola does look colourless, which is a sign that it has gone rotten. Personally, I Wouldn't try it, It looks like it is bid rot, but it has dried out from the lack of water. The rest of the plant looks fine, but way over its harvest time. Do you have a microscope to check the trichomes?

Its just that one bud that would concern me, the rest look ripe and ready and juicy mmmmmm, are you ready for harvest?

Hi mate, I've only ever did one grow so not talking with loads of experience but it looks like rot.
Starts off inside and works out leaving everything musty n tobacco looking!
Check the inside of your other buds to see if theres any blackness.
I wouldn't smoke it👍

Whooop whoop dats the sound of da police!

@macky

I've harvested earlier this week. I thought I was to early because I read the trichomes (wich is that white powder stuff on the bud right?) need to be turning brown for harvest. All white is to early, all brown is to late; if some start turning brown it's perfect harvest time. I don't have a microscope but I do have a magnifying glass. I saw only white trichomes so I figured I was to early. But since I already stopt watering and the plant was already drying out and that one stem that didn't look good + I had the time for it I harvested anyways. According to schedule though I harvested one week later. But my plant is really growing according to schedule anyways since I messed up the watering before and it to the plant a long time to come back from that although that was still in the flowering stage.

But you think the problem is probably that I harvested to late?

I feel like there were still a lot of underdeveloped buds though like parts of the bud still very light coloured green

Ow damn my whole harvest might be funky? 😱

I hope not. I've been trying for about a year now haha that would be such a waste 😭

But should I check for blackness like really black or brownish like this funky bud?

Looking at the plant I would say it was harvested too late.

We will explain the trichome thing another time. For now we can concentrate on making sure this bud is safe for you. Do you have pics of the harvest as it is now?

I'm leaving the presumably good ones to dry before cutting them open. But already checked the funky one.

It's still green on the inside!

So it didn't start from the inside out. So it isn't bud rot right? Right? 😀

I've added picture of the cut-open top part of the funky bud.

You might be OK then lol, you would know if it was rot, the is no mistaking it. Its still really hard for us to tell from pictures, but the bud looks over done, but not rotten.

Maybe you had it a bit too close to the light and it has lost colour because of light bleaching?

Be vigilante, and anything you think looks or smell mouldy, should not be used. But considering the plant looks really well done, its going to be a good strong couch lock hi!

Let us know what you decide to do 🙂

Now, how long has the plant been on flower for Boemel?

Happy as I can be without checking it myself thats its ok Boemel. But still, be vigilante, just incase, but I think you're good, the harvest looks lovely, congrats 🙂 Don't dehydrate them at the end next time and they will be happier 🙂 There is lots of techniques people claim will do certain things, most of it is BS. The best thing you can do is keep you plants stress free and happy. They will reward you with good weed

Yuo got any ideas what you're going to grow next?

It's been in flower for 9 weeks.

So harvesting to late not only gives risk to bud rot but even if the bud is still good it won't be a nice smoke for the throat then?

This was my biggest stem so it was closest to the light, but it's led-light and was about 30 cm above the plant I believe.

Maybe with my next grow I should just ignore the trichomes and harvest when the schedule says so 🤔

This was kind of my try-out plant from seeds I got for free. (It was about my 7th try I believe. First time the germinated seed made it through the soil. Good thing I started out with the free seeds haha) It's fruit spirit from royal queen seeds.

After this I'll start growing medicinal weed because I believe that's healthier for the mind. Not sure yet wich one. I think I'll go with dance world, a more active strain.

What's wrong with it?

I thought I knew my weed but oh boy I feel like such a newbie now. Beginning to doubt I have any idea how weed should look... 🤔

I don't see anything wrong with it.. 🤷

It’s a bit harsh is all 😂 and not grown in the best conditions, too much heat and humidity and the main cola was a bit too close to the light. But it’s all my own home grown so it’s the bomb 😂

Yeah the fact that you've grown it yourself just makes it somehow better, right? 😅

Looks good for the first time man. But as macky said be vigilant about the smell and look of mould...you should be ok though from pics....I'm sure we've all had weed worse than that man lol

@colacody

I've done loads of research beforehand. I've trained the plant by tying the higher stems to the side of the pot and pull them down so more main stems would develop in stead of just a few. I think instead of the few bigger stems I did get about 40ish medium ones and some small ones as well that will go into the oil later on. I'm curious about the weight of my harvest though. According to royalqueenseeds this strain should give 475-525 grams per plant.

I think I'll have something between 200 to 300 grams.

So glad that one stem wasn't bud rot. Not bad for a first grow indeed I guess 😁

Took long enough tho. First months didn't even get past germination. And this one is about 2,5 months behind on schedule because I thought I didn't give enough water and then overcompensated. The plant was barely still alive and took a long time to get back back from that.

At least now I have a decent harvest I guess without bud rot 😀

I'll probably try the 'funky' bud later today since it will be dried enough already I guess 😅

I'll let you guys know how that went ✌️

If you don't hear from me again you'll know why 😂😂

Aight nice 😀

I guess first of all keep watering until the end and harvest according to schedule and forget about the trichomethingys for a while because apparently, I'm assuming, I wasn't checking that correctly since I was late on my harvest.

But if any new questions pop up I'll definitely drop them somewhere around here. And hopefully eventually I'll be helping out newbies as well 🙈👌

We just learn from each other and hand it down to the new guys 🙂 This is how most cannabis growers have learned to grow.

This sums up the trichomes thing:

Rest of it will be fine to smoke mate, I lost a wee patch out of my main cola that was up near the light but the rest was fine after I picked it out.

Not rot then mate, mabey it got damaged/snapped and died off ? Mine was soft, black n mushy with tobacco coloured leaves around it. It just crumbled away as I touched it. It was half way up the main cola and I only really noticed it just before harvest. Rest of the plant was totally fine and curing as I type!

Was it an autoflower? Have read that sometimes the trichs dont really go amber on some strains.

It wasn't autoflower.

And only seen milky trichomes not one amber with my magnifying glass.

Maybe with this strain they don't turn amber or I need to get me a microscope or something like that to see better 🤷‍♀️
