hi. Can anyone help please. I have just notice the plants are looking a little rough the last few days could you  take a look  and let me know what it is I have and how to deal with it. I believe it might be thrips or mites.
the plants are in super soil in the garden during the day then in the shed at night. Being fed rain water.
thank you.

@droverdog It sounds like you’re dealing with some frustrating plant issues! If you suspect thrips or mites, check for small specks on the leaves or webbing, as those are telltale signs. You might want to consider using a gentle insecticidal soap or neem oil to treat the plants, and keep an eye on the humidity levels and temperature, as those can affect pests too. Good luck!

@droverdog one treatment that has been used very successfully here is the use of strong black tea or coffee sprayed on the plant. Caffeine is poisonous to the bugs and not to humans so you can spray almost anytime. Members report big results in 2-3 sprayings. You can also sprinkle used coffee grounds on the soil surface to catch them going back to the soil to breed. That caffeine really messes with them.

On the advice of Clackmas Coot, I always use some neem meal in my soil mix. It’s not much, maybe a cup or two in 30 gallons of soil, but it has helped keep the bugs out of my mix so far. It is rich in nitrogen, close to blood meal, so you can definitely over-do it if you go nuts. Prevention is always best if you can pull it off

@monkeydo   Do you know if it's ok to add some neem meal to a coco grow?  Or would the nutes in the neem upset the balance of the salt nutes?  Like the idea of strong black tea spray, always have some over brew left in the pot in the morning.

@plane_co now as far as adding it to the coco I have never done that but I do coco grows and use neem as a spray when trying to prevent.  I have only every used strong breakfast tea to treat pests it worked banging I did it in 3 week of flower as well.  3 tea bags in a large cup or in a litre of boiling water let it cool stick it in a spray bottle and go nuts with it get the plant absolutely dripping get on the underside of every bit of growth it works great

That’s not something I would recommend or try myself. Neem meal is also a good source of nitrogen when it breaks down and that could throw the grow a curve ball. It would be very similar to adding blood meal to your coco. If you want the insect resistant properties, I’d opt for a light sprinkle of the neem meal on the surface of the coco periodically, sort of like a sprinkle of salt. The only insect I’ve seen in my media so far is springtails, and they are good bugs, so I’ve not even considered any of this.

@monkeydo your a legend. Sorry for delayed reply I have been away. The coffe trick works wonders. As you said it only took a few sprays.
Thank you so much. 👊

@droverdog got to give credit where it’s due, that treatment was originally posted by Sparky. It seems to help lots of growers. Glad it worked 👍

Thanks guys, yeah it's springtails so perhaps not an issue. Can't believe how you can't see them until they float to the surface when watered.
