Can someone see if I'm reading this correctly? Trying to figure out the exact ppm of calcium and magnesium in my tap water. It has calcium hardness and calcium? Which would it be? Reason is to see if I should be using extra cal or mag in coco with gg maxi bloom. Any help would be appreciated

@cani80 I think youre looking into things a bit too much mate πŸ˜‰ Keep it simple. Different strains will use different amounts of calcium, if youre using a high end LED, the plant will use more calcium to, the little bit in the water wont make too much of a difference.Β

Just use it and see how the plants react, I think they will be ok Smile

@macky Hello, again. Well the thing is I can't quite get it right lol. I've tried and seems to be one of these two issues. If I had a better idea with this report, I'd beable to get it dialed in. I do appreciate you πŸ™

What did you try ?

Do you have a Cal/Mag nute?

@james Hello, thanks for responding. Well I've done multiple runs trying it different ways. Adding extra cal mag, just mag, just cal, ph, extra low nute flush, filtering water, use from tap, etc, and just can't get it right. Seems like plants are having some kind of deficiency every run mainly toward end, get those pink stems. I have cal mag and also have epson and cal separate. Not an over feeder going in at around 600 for flower, mix up nutes per gallon then dilute down to ppm. That's why I'm trying to maybe see if my water is the issue and or how to deal with it.

The way I understand it, the Calcium value, the 31ppm, is the one you need to be concerned with. 'Calcium Hardness' is a measure of the CaCO3 dissolved in the water, but is really used as a measure for assessing hardness - 0-60pmm is 'soft, 61-120ppm is moderately hard, and >120ppm is hard.

The 31ppm value actually derives from the Calcium Hardness value - just need a bit of math and some molecular familiarity! CaCO3 as a molecule is made up of about 40% Calcium (Ca) and 60% carbonate (CO3). So if you take the the total 81.6ppm and multiply it by 40% (or 0.4) to isolate the Ca part of it, you end up with the 31ppm in the report.

science

What I woould be more concerned with is that pH value - 7.98 is quite high to use as irrigation water if not treated. That's about what mine is as well, and I run into some serious lockout issues if I don't bring it down. 6.5pH is ideal for soil, mid to high 5s in hydro.Β

@templegrower thanks for the info. I do make sure ph going in is always in that range. I try to fluctuate between the 5.6-6.3 for coco coir. I have read alot of forums say with coco to ad cal mag everytime (in my case I've done with and without) then others say leave on the shelf. Seems I end up with pink stems, spots which look to be a cal/mag or both. I jist have a feeling it's something simple after all the basics are being done. Again, thanks for the info mich appreciated

I use Coco as well but ph 6,5 veg and 6.0 flower.

I have hard water and Cal/Mag defs where only at week 5-6 of vegetative growth.

Pink stems are a sign of missing Phospher.
