Several seedlings look like this one, but some (treated the same way) look darker green, shorter, and their leaves are flat or slightly upturned (see second image)

. Is the yellowing and drooping possibly related to light (the lighting isn't as even as it should be as I have bulbs rather than bars). Seems unlikely to be nutrient related at this stage (just started adding folia

@dr-jitter-bug If you want a good top layer to help prevent fungas gnats regular play sand works great.  Mosquito dunks will decimate fungus gnats and they will never be a problem again though if done right, then dont have to worry about it. Smile

Never even bought a bag of coco before mate so not best placed to help here.

From what I know coco should always be moist, and there isn’t much foliage there to receive what the plant needs that way. I’d try feeding in the coco and see how you go.

I’m sure one of the Coco growers will be along shortly 😀

For a start mate, you should start with 1ml per litre of A n B so i think you need abit more for a gallon. Everything else is not needed and you should cut it out of the feed.

There is a lot of perlite on the top there and that can adjust the ph too. Ph needs to be around 5.8 in coco, and washing it trough the perlite can change it before it gets to the root zone.

I would scoop out the perlite so you have just coco, then mix up some new feed, only 1ml per litre of a n b, nothing else, and give a good feed so you get plenty of run off. Dont forget to ph at 5.8 Smile They will be fine after that

@macky Thanks heaps! Will do! All that perlite is there to keep fungus gnats down, but I suppose it is doing more harm than good?

5.8ph, ec to 0.6-0.8, as macky said remove the perlite off the top if you can, at this age you want them to be moist as long as possible and that much perlite on top will mess with both your ph and ec before it hits the root zone as well as preventing the coco from staying moist around the seedling. You really want to keep coco moist at all times, I think its the most common trap people get lulled into with coco, you need to think of coco as hydro, it won't give the plant anything your feed does that, and if it dries out it will cause lockout issues. I start at 2.5ml cal mag, 2.5ml a+b and 2.5ml seasol/vitathrive into 10 litres of water for the first week, I will then slowly ramp up the ec increasing all input nutrients at the same ratio every few days until I am in the right ec range for that stage of the plants growth. I always ease them into increases, less shock on the plant. Good luck mate, plenty of helpful tips from everyone here  they will be back on track in no time.

@dr-jitter-bug How did you get those already mate? Get some sticky traps up to catch what you can and use sand or diatomaceous earth on top of the medium. I would be tempted to get rid of everything and start fresh too. Fungus gnats so early on can be a pain to get rid of. Easier to nuke everything get some fresh clean coco and start again in some cases 🙁

Biological control BTI found in mosquito dunks can eliminate the problem completely if you are interested in a different method of control. Also, as an option some growers use a cm or so of sharp sand instead of the perlite. It uses the same control mechanism as the perlite and if you wash it thoroughly before use it should be approx ph neutral and it doesn’t break down.
