Grow medium (soil, coco, hydro): Soil, Sohum, 5 gallon (I think it’s way too big)
Strain: Northern Lights Auto RQS
PH of your nutrient solution ( Feed): 250ml of Ph 6.4
PH of the run off, or Reservoir: Don’t get run off
EC/ PPM of Nutrient Solution before Feeding: Don’t measure EC
EC/ PPM of the run off, or Reservoir: N/A
Nutrients Brand, and how many ML per litre of which foods: BioBizz CalMag .5ml/litre
Grow room temps lights on/ lights off ( On/ Off): 22/Unsure at it’s night time but I say around 20ish or below.
Grow room humidity lights on/ lights off (On/ Off): 50-60/ not sure about off. But I say around 50
Lighting type and wattage (hps, led, cfl): SF1000
Extraction (Size of Extractor, and where you draw and exhaust air from): One 6" RAM desk fan, 6” fan and carbon filter not used right now.
Bit of a background, water with 250ml of 6.5ph very ¾ days. Plant is at the end of week 5, started with issues probably at around 3 weeks, seemed like bit of calMal issue where it had brown spots in the middle of the leaves, so gave .5ml/l of Biobizz CalMag the last few waters, seemed to kind of fix it.
Also provided some biobizz bio-grow at around week 3 or earlier, way below the suggestion .5 ml/L water only.
So the yellow tips is most likely nutrient burn when I gave some extra bio-grow. Then I stopped adding that and just used PHd water. The brow spots on the main fan leaves in my guess was CalMAg so I started giving that during the watering. Solved
Current state, I went away for a night. Gave them water in the morning before leaving, 250ml just to keep it moist. I left the desk fan running 24/7, there is a heater that has a sensor to turn on, it keeps the tent in around 20C, when I came back today it was at 18C and humidityat 50ish. Seen my poor plant in a bad state, new leaves were wilting and look droopy, some of the leaves just straight up died. I am not sure what to do. New stems with what looks like be bud sites are just going brown and yellow and the fan leaves are very weak☹ seems to mainly happen on one stem the rest aren't as bad
Should I cut off the damaged leaves?
Should I be watering more? Or less?
Could it be a temp/hum issue?
My guesses are: boron deficiency which is unlikely, or Potassium Deficiency
Let me know what you think guys and how she could be saved, also sorry about the long post thought I would give all details.
First the disclaimer, ima coco grower but I’ll get this ball rolling. Sohum is intended as a water only soil so if it’s watered correctly and is in a large enough container there shouldn’t be a need for supplemental feeding, it won’t make it grow faster or bigger. Looks like root stress to me. Are you letting the pots dry out enough between watering? The pot should weigh only half of what it weighs completely saturated before you water again, number of days isn’t as important as the moisture level in the pot. @zn runs Sohum, he will know more so he’s tagged lol
Recommended minimum size for Sohum is 25ltrs so 6 gallon and I use 21.25 5.6 gall so ok there...as Monkey says, its a water only soil so you shouldnt be adding anything really. I do add Biosys Tea once a week but apart from that nothing...
Wet to almost dry watering, dont go by time, go by pot weight, again as mentioned above, lol
And have you got a fan on the side where the damage is ?
Sohum is really light when it comes in the bag...you can kind of tell when the pot is light but its a matter of environment too...mine are under 630w CMH so dry out quicker, plus plants are bigger...
I have 2 Peyote Kush in Sohum 21.25ltr and they're every 3/4 days...flowering at 3/4 weeks and they were on 2 litres, 6 weeks 2 1/2 etc...but yeah, let dry out for a bit and leave the dodgy looking stuff...they'll recover
I mention the fan because as you say, its only on side affected and the fan can dry them out quickly if intense...certain strains hate it and dry out and crinkle up quickly
The VPD issue should also be addressed. Transpiration is gonna be an issue with that wet environment plus those damaged leaves.
Agreed...especially as you're not using your extraction (am I reading this right ?) Rh will be massive
6” fan and carbon filter not used right now.
Ok sounds good guys,
Correct fan is not being used. I will give that a shot, let the soil dry out a bit more. The airflow in the tent is Bottom vent opened, Top vent opened and the fan moving the air around.
I think my watering was a bit messed up from the start. Also you mentioned the soil being dry and light when you get it. I ran some water before planting the seed, the soil was soaked probably shouldn't have done that. Really just need the pot to dry out I guess.
Whats VPD by the way?
VPD stands for Vapor Pressure Deficit
My 2 cents here: I would definitively try to raise the day temps at least t0 24C-25C. And try to avoid going below 18, ideally I aim for 19-20C night temps.
And you should definitely get runoff every time you water. That is important
