Hi guys, I'm about a month into flower. I've noticed the lower fan leaves along with some of the middle ones are turning yellow with some small black spots. Two other plants (another thread) had problems around the same time which I inadvertently made worse. It's my first grow so I'm feeling a bit cursed. Everything was going on without a single problem until now. I've been extra careful about the pH of my water and not overfeeding so I'm not sure why they are getting so cranky all of a sudden. I would appreciate any advice.

Is it just affecting the lower canopy?

@bassdude1118 it could be manganese based on the appearance of your leaves...or potassium maybe since you're moving into flower.

I'd like to avoid doing anything drastic. I fed them a half dose of NPK nutes about 4 days ago. I thought about top dressing with worm castings and a bit of compost. What do you think?

@bassdude1118 are you able to give a more in-depth guide on your feeding regime … I’m no expert but have witnessed the lake of N and Cal-Mag when plants hit flower, up take increases dramatically. Also a big word of wisdom from @im_sparky … never let the medium get to dry and then feed nuitz, slightly wet the medium the day before and then feed nuitz to prevent lockout or burnt tips.

No doubt someone will jump in with more help, as you say don’t do anything drastic until there is a solid plan of action.

@green_fingers_87 well with these two plants because up until now they are doing too well I was just watering with pH adjusted water using vinegar or baking soda to adjust. I kept feeding quite light as I didn't want to over feed so I was using half doses about half a capful of compo grow 4, 0.9, 3.6 and now compo bloom 3.2-3.5-4.2 with Mg0, Na2O, AO3 of 1.1, 0.6, 1.5.

I did this about once every 10 days or so.

@bassdude1118 Are you giving them any calmag, they usually need some a few weeks into flower, if not the leaves can get brown scabby patches on them.

It might just be going yellow because of low feeding if your only feeding once every 10 days with half strength measures, but I don't know what like that nutes are as iv never used them.

Someone else might be able to advise you about that.

She doesn't look too bad though mate 🙂

@stootie hey Stootie thanks for the tip. I added a small amount of liquid calcium and epsom salts when I watered today. I also added a cup of worm castings and compost for the micro nutrients. Seeing as I fed them recently I'll see how that goes and perhaps give them a full dose of liquid nuts in a few days time.

@bassdude1118 as mentioned by Stootie the feed ratio to regime is very low and they will only get more hungry!

Fertigation is quite involved I found at first, having a moisture meter really helped to prevent major dry back maintaining a moist medium. As an example I am feeding my plants 3 times a week at the moment so I take my feeding chart split it by 3 starting at half dose and then persist to increase until I see slight tip burn and then slightly reduce but as they grow they will demand more.

Agreed, plants ain’t all that bad … hopefully you caught the issue in time.

I've been gone and without internet access for the last month so I am just seeing this thread. How has this worked out for you, @bassdude1118?   Just in a quick scan of the thread and your photos, it looks like she was hungry for N as well as maybe Ca and Mg.  Did she bounce back after a feeding?  Flowering takes large amounts of energy so plant consumption goes up.

@im_sparky I could use your advice though on whether or not I should feed it again. Should I

continue adding calmag which has helped stabilize it or should I just add water? I think it will be done in two weeks or so. I've attached some pics of the trichomes and the plant in general. There are many bud sights, but all of them are quite small. I attribute this to me being a first time grower and neglecting to do any defoliation on this plant. It has been over 7 weeks since it first started showing signs of flowering

Hi Sparky, she got a bit worse before she stabilized. Feeding seemed to help. I'm going on the last two weeks of flower now so I've cut back feeding. Although not as big as I'd like them to be it will be more cannabis than I smoke in a year off of one plant so I guess I'll have plenty to share with good friends.

Opinions differ on this topic, and it also depends on the medium. As a soil grower, I think plants should have nutrition until the end. Others, particularly coco growers, insist on the flush, but there is no hard evidence one way or the other that I am aware of. If she were mine, I would continue with low feedings.

And bro, your first grow is always the best harvest in some ways regardless of the outcome because its all YOURS and you likely will have more and better bud than you can buy.
