Hi all,
Well finally dealt with first harvest, pineapple express. Dried in dark at 18 degrees and 50% humidity for 12 days. Buds snapped off stems and most stems snapped or bent with slight break sound.
Dry trimmed and outer leaves generally just snapped/ crumbled off when trimming. They did seem a bit dry but everything else seemed like they were ready.
Took large fan leaves off before drying. In jars at moment and humidity is at 50-51% across 4 jars.
Everything I read says this is too low? Should be about 60%. Does humidity creep up from moisture coming back out of stems and middle of buds or do I need to get humidity up?
If I need to get it up any simple tips eg a few sprays of water or a few drops and re seal?
Also what is likely impact on my final product if kept too low at 50%?
@whereistoss, Pineapple Express sound so nice, haven't grow it yet, congrats. Glad it worked out well for you. This is what I know and what I do. I might be wrong but everyone does it their own way. So...
I hang dry for 7-10 days.
I leave the fan leaves on to slow the process.
After everything is trimmed then I cut it from the branches and put in an Oven Roasting bag. I shake the bag so things don't stick together. You can use jars instead of the bag. I like the bag, I feel it helps give a uniform RH for the whole bunch, then I separate them.
I burp the bag everyday for two weeks. 10-15 mins. I keep a hydrometer in the bag to monitor RH. I shoot for 60% by the end, if it falls a little short that's ok.
If their wetter leave it open longer, if it's dryer shorten the open time. Your burping off the chlorophyll, I think that's right. anyway
Then I jar it. If the RH is low I add a Boveda 62% humidity pack (amazon) to the jar/s to bring up the RH. It takes a couple days.
Your done they can be storied now or smoked. I still burp the jars once a week or so, just once or twice.
That's my way, right or wrong. We'll see what others have to say. Good luck man, it'll be old hat in no time at all. peace
@woodi2 cheers mate thanks for reply. It definitely is a high yielding sweet smelling Strain.
Be great if anyone else has tips re if I need to increase humidity in first two weeks or if it naturally rises as it cures?
If it was me I’d prob try get the RH in there up a bit, Boveda or similar moisture packs work. Couple leaves off a live plant works too
Mine havent risen noticeably since they were jarred end of April.
Couple leaves off a live plant works too
Yer this is a great way to do it mate Humidity between 58 and 62% in jars is perfect. Add a leaf if you need to raise it, or leave the jars open a bit lo lower it.

@whereistoss congratulations on your first harvest mate. I've added a few fresh leaves to my curing jars before when I needed to raise the RH a little. Worked a treat👌
I've also used Boveda to rescue some bud that was so dry it crumbled, believe it or not the Boveda saved it! Took about 10 days in the cure jar and it was beautiful bud again!!!
We cannot choose what we are, yet what are we but the sum of our choices...
@leo-stile cheers mate. Popped a few leaves in. Will see how we go.
Thanks all for tips and advice. No better place to learn this new hobby.
@woodi2 I think I might get some Boveda for my next curing attempt, last run the RH was about the high 40s to 50ish most of the time so likely never cured right.
I was going to add a 20 pack of 62% Boveda to my backet but then noticed it said Size 1 Protects up to 1/8 Ounce (3.5 Grams) Flower. I never go into a grow expecting a massive yield but even I would be hoping for my 2 Ghost Trains to deliver slightly more than 3.5 grams.haha
What size Boveda do you use Woodi, I use those 200g Douwe Egberts coffee jars with the glass lids for curing in, any idea what size I should get for them

If you can't say it with flowers Then don't say anything
@whereistoss this is the most crucial part man. I am so picky too when I get to cure. I've had a hard time in my house finding the right point to start curing because it's so dry BUT....I found out how to use a towel in the drying room and that raised the humidity to about 55 to 58 RH. I dry at 10 days or so judging by bud size density and overall dryness of the buds as they dry.
For you at 51 RH there is still hope with the fresh leaves in the jar. This will be the best way to avoid terpene damage. Definitely want to hit that 58 to 60 RH level. Now....I am SUPER picky with taste....the Boveda packs DO change the taste a SMALL amount I have found but....when considering the options of long term fresh bud or over dried harsh Terps lol....take a Boveda pack lol. Also you can surround your Boveda pack with parchment paper leaving the ends open if your overly concerned with the buds touching the Boveda pack but .....not a big deal tho IMO. You will find how and what works for you as you go tho. Keep us updated!
