I wonder if anyone else has tried to replace the air in their jars with some other gass for long therm storage?

This is the norm for storing in the food industry and it makes sense for bud also (at least in my mind). And if you already have a co2 tank and regulator, why not do a side by side test.

I'm going to try, but I don't have enough material or experience to really compare so this will just be for my own peace of mind. The less oxygen in the jar the less oxidation will occur right?

First I will crank up the flow and use a plastic bag to guage how much/fast it is flowing. Then unscrew the lid and put the co2 tubing into the jar for a while. Co2 is heavier than Air and will displace it in the jar. As long as I don't open it and store it in a cool place it should last a long time right?

@frikar I’ve tried the oxygen eaters before, both the ones with salt as well as the others. The salt ones raised the rh to high, and the others did work somewhat to cause a minor vacuum, had no noticeable long term effects. Never tried CO2

I believe that the food industry uses nitrogen or sometimes co2.

I already have co2 so it costs me nothing to try.

@frikar be careful with CO2.  Dissolved in water it creates acidic conditions.   Dried herb has low water content, but I wouldn't commit much of your stash until you know it's not a problem.  Nitrogen would be no issue.  If you wanted to ball exceptionally hard, maybe Argon?

This is how I've been preparing for long term storage. Vacuum sealer, I put the lids on really loosely. I assume oxygen is removed and the jar helps not to crush the flowers together. I still have a few from last year's outdoor harvest, October, a bit of diminished quality but far better than just in a jar in the cabinet.
