The manufacturers of the humidity or humidor packets want you to think they are disposable so you will buy more (f'n capitalists and their 1-use products!). However, when a pack becomes dry, you can easily re-hydrate it. This is because all the RH packets are is H20 within a permeable membrane calibrated to absorb or adsorb at the correct RH.
You can re-charge them by placing the packets in a small container without a lid, then setting the container inside of a larger container with a lid. You pour a small amount of distilled H20 into the larger container and seal the lid. The smaller, open container with the humidity packs sits in the water, keeping the packs dry, but exposing them to the humidity inside the larger, sealed container. In a week or so, the humidity from the distilled H20 will be absorbed into the gel inside the humidity packets by osmosis.
Voila! You will notice the thin, rigid, dried RH packets are now plump and malleable with moisture inside them. You now have recharged the packets and they are ready for your storage jars -- as good as new! Yes, literally. Save some cash. Hope that helps!

@im_sparky that's a very good idea
Brilliant, never crossed my mind.
It’s a salt/water solution in the pack, it is the type and possibly the amount of salt that enables it to regulate a specific RH range. The salt can only absorb a certain amount of water. When is dries out, the salt remains as the water component is absorbed by the dryer contents.
Well, I’ve tossed my fair share away, thanks for posting.

@artmann o dear, yea I've had a nightmare about that before lol. I also have a similar concern about my vaporiser breaking and releasing a couple hundred red hot little balls all over me and the upholstery 😂😟😱
Its still worth it though
@mix I think it largely has to do with your local environment and how you use your bud. I live in an area where it is extremely humid, but air conditioning severely dries out the interior environment. As a result, I have to constantly add humidity to my grow space. The same environment applies to storage jars, in that every time one is opened, then the low level of humidity is gradually dried up. The humidity packs work very well for buffering that by keeping the jars close to an ideal RH. They keep the terps from evaporating, and work very well.
