Grow Diaries Cream & Cheese Starting out with Root Rot!

Here’s the roots in my other system. The actual recirculating one.

Lids are covered and light-tight as they should’ve been. Buckets and stones cleaned. Nutes mixed and pH-ed. I’m hoping in my panic I didn’t push the CC further than it can handle. It’s in a grow challenge and I have to flip it by February 14th. The pressure is on and I don’t know if I’ll have enough time to clone it and top it as many times as I’d hoped. Either way these situations always teach me something and keep me at my limits. If I can’t do it to this one then I’ll learn from what not doing something does as well. If that makes any sense.

@lebanesecheeze Glad you got it sorted mate! It can be concerning at first but its and easy fix as long as it hasnt spread too far Great work man 

@lebanesecheeze, hey man. Glad your here, it's nice to have another water baby around. lol Did you chop the rot off? That stuff is a pain in the ass. H202 works good for me when it comes to that nasty stuff. 

What type of Bennies are you using? I cover everything and anything where light could get in, then  I cover it again! lol

@woodi2 I sure did chop the roots. I was scared to chop so much but there was a clear line of distinction of what was sick so I didn’t want to take any risk. Once and done. And I’m sorry what are bennies? You know us guys in the states don’t speak English that well! 

@lebanesecheeze, well yes it's probably my accent. It always comes through in my typing. 🤣 Hard to hide my mid-west twang!! lol But yes I do speak the King's English. 🤣 

Bennies are Beneficial Bacteria. They colonize in the system and protect against bad bacteria, the shit that causes root rot, Phytophthora and others. This is know as a "Live grow". If your not using a chiller then you definitely want to be using Bennies, such as Hydroguard @ 2ml pre gal/4L (this is what I use), Great White at whatever amount is recommended and only a couple of others. OR

You can added Bleach, Pool shock, and others to have a Sterile grow. I tried it and it wasn't for me. Nothing grows as far as microbes in the solution, so no rot, but no beneficial bacteria either. Kill'em all attitude. OR

You can run H202, Hydrogen Peroxide, which is know as a Dead Rez. This is what you do when you get infected. You can hit the RED BUTTON and nuke the whole nine yards. Kills all organic life depending on strength. Kill a little or a lot, plants included. Then rinse and return to a Live Grow or stay and play Dead. LOL  

I just had to hit the Red Button and it worked amazingly. It's in my current postings of 3 Wet and Wild White Widows. Plus root choppin' and all kinds of cool plant torture's stuff while in RDWC. Hope this helps.

@woodi2 Youve just given me some golden information! So no, I have not been using any beneficial bacteria. I grabbed some Great White at my grow store but then put it back so that I could grab nutes. I told myself I’d use it next grow to see the difference the mycorrhizae would make. I knew I shouldn’t went with my gut. In my recirculating system I didn’t have any bacterial issues and started to think I was invincible. This rot in my contained bucket was a quick slap and reminder.

So if I grab some Great white is it something that needs to be added only once since it’s an organism? I’m sure there’s instructions but I’d like your input. I’d rather do that than a sterile route. And since I’m asking, any input on FishShit? Was thinking of grabbing and implementing at some point. Like I said I’ve been doing less is more and working my way up!!

Here's the in-line filter. It protects your pumps and chiller from all the shit in the water. Plus when cleaned daily you can see if anything is brewing the system, without opening the system. You don't want to be continuously opening the buckets, that's how bad stuff gets introduced. Place them where you have easy access to them. A valve before and after, plus a small catch tray. I cover the valves too because they're white. I'm not prejudice I just don't like light. Could paint them, covers good too. Lazy!! lol
