Has anyone every tried using an old refrigerator to make a water chiller. Not like rolls of hose placed inside the fridge, but like taking apart the fridge and using the coil, compressor, etc to make a chiller? I have access to them at work 🤔

Should be possible if you can manage that cooling fluid and rebuilt the cooling coils which are not removeable I think.

Maybe you could make some holes and put a coil of tube into the machine as it is?

My thinking is to put the cooling coil directly into the res or another water source and use the fridges temperature control to keep the temps high enough to prevent freezing. I may give it a shot, but figured I'd ask here first.

Compressor is not meant to run 24/7 and to do this it would have to as changing air temp is a total difference to changing the temp of a volume of water, fridge would last a month if that. You would be better off using the whole fridge as a water tank, say a 50 ltr container inside connected via a float valve with an outlet...leave for 24 hrs and you should be good

Or coil up 100m of good quality garden hose inside and drill 2 holes in the top/bottom for entry/exit

i saw a video of a guy using a dehumidifier to convert it into a chiller but in the comments someone said that would not recommend since you would get copper and lead and other stuff dissolve in the water with risk of poisoning..

i would look at a cheap chiller instead like the cw-3000dg.. i have put my eyes on it but i dont own it yet so cant wouch for it..
