Hello all,
I came home from work to check on my 3 week old plant and the water in my bucket had a thin layer of white residue settled at the bottom. I’ve attached an image as well. Last night I added the first round of Nutes (using General Hydro Flora Series) at 25% the recommended dose in 3 gallons of water. Water was spring water from an aquifer and ph’d to 5.9 over the course of a few days at about 62 degrees Fahrenheit. I added one gallon of water and then the corresponding nutrients in the correct order, checked the PH, and added 3mL ph down to get it back to 5.8. Nobody at work who has done DWC has had this issue and I’m not sure if I should just mix it up more or change out the water? The plant looks fine at the moment, but I would like to resolve this quickly lol. Thank you!
@jetsetratio I would change the res just to be sure man. You mixing the nuits properly? A before b nshit, not using ph up and ph down in the same water? That can cause calcification and youll be left with clacium in the water. Always make sure you use A before B with your nuits, and never mix ph up with ph down
Hey @jetsetratio, did you use General Hydroponic Armor Si silica?
. I added one gallon of water and then the corresponding nutrients in the correct order,
So you added 1 gallon then nutrients then 2 more gallons to get to three gallon? Trying to see what could have happened.
@macky I’m definitely going to change the res to be safe, but yes I followed the order directed to properly add the nutrients. After the brew was thoroughly mixed I waited a while and then tested the PH and only added enough PH down to get it from about 7.0 to 5.8.
@woodi2 yes I had an empty, sterilized bucket and added 1 gallon and then the Micro, mixed it well, and then proceeded to do the same for the Gro and Bloom. After that was mixed and sat for an hour or 2 I went back and added PH down to bump it from 7.0 to 5.8. After it ran overnight I came back and that layer of residue was there! I’m trying to figure out where I went wrong as well and my only guess could be that maybe the water was a little too cold?
@jetsetratio , yeah just remix since your only dealing with a gallon or so. Your temp is too cold for sure, 66f min. Set out another container of water and see if it forms in it. This will happen to me but it is the silica falling out of solution usually. Silica and Hydroguard are good, just check your water source for silica before adding too much, I use RO water so mine has nothing. But I use Hydroguard religiously.
@woodi2 I emptied the res, cleaned it, used 1 gallon of hot water and mixed in the micro and then a gallon of cold water and the gro, and another cold gallon and the bloom, mixed, ph’d, and it is crystal clear 12 hours later no sign of any grime and my Jack Herer has grown a handful!
@jetsetratio, yep just like @Macky said, glad it worked out. DWC mystery. lol
