As someone that has come to know cannabis quite late in life ( I'm 62) I am rather enjoying myself. I am currently on my third grow and managed to harvest and make some reasonably effective oils and edibles. Though not a smoker I have taken to vaping some of my produce and have experienced the different effects of several different strains. However it really is oils and tinctures for medical applications where my interest lies.
My question though is this - other than the simple THC and CBD concentrations of the various strains, do any of the other strain characteristics survive decarbing and pass on the oils, tinctures and edibles ?

You are correct with your line of thinking that the majority of terpenes evaporate during the decarboxylation process. Edibles rely on the cannabinoids, some of which can be bought out in greater effect, for example, if you used vaped bud, it may be higher in CBN which is a highly sedative cannabinoid and your edibles may make you incredibly sleepy.
Some store-bought edibles will have terpenes added after they have been made with decarboxylated cannabis flower or concentrates which can be helpful for activating the entourage effect.

Yep, but it also depends on specific situation, specific person and how much of CBD oil does he take.
