Questions Autopots no nos??

Autopots are good imo, it’s Keeping the res within range is what pissed me off. Air stones made the ph fluctuated too much and were loud af. Humming a way like mf. I use a water fan know. I’m guessing you could put what you want in there, if you can stabilise It. But defo a clever move. 💚

I’ve read, certain liquids can clog up the tubs … hence why you have a drain off, so you can service the run now and then but depends how much you will be adding I suppose. Timer and small size water pump is a good trick with the auto pots or general reservoirs for mixing solution/nutrients. I can’t remember the exact science but certain nutrients can become anaerobic or the opposite when using air stone.

If you are going with living soil, you won’t need any nutrients anyway, just water … and the perk to living soil, is there are no requirements for PH water, as the ecosystems does it for you! Of course you will have to replenish with a top dress or liquid nutrients after a while.

Definitely use a mulch … 

@green_fingers_87 Hi thanks for the input,  yeah totally super soil so nutrients aren't needed in the water just some microbes to add, but now you've said about anaerobic stuff, makes me think twice about using bokashi juice as a permanent additive to the tank. I'll just use it as a service flush for the pipes.

@goldseal94 'kin airstones!!!! 😆 I have changed to an aquarium filter with an oxygenating tube to circulate the water. I don't need to balance anything to be honest,  just microbes to add.

I’m happy with between  5.5 to 7.0ph anywhere in that range,  I’m giving it to my plants.

@kushty_kirk all good … I have a load of Biobizz to master but looking forward to growing in living soil for sure.

As for microbes, my knowledge does not extent that far at present lol no doubt someone will jump in! 

Are you using the xl system or the standard ? The xl system has thicker diameter pipes.

I use great white in my auto pot system. I’m only on my second run with auto pot xl system so not the most experienced but I haven’t had any blockages. 

also I have a small fish tank filter type pump in the res too connected to a timer which comes on for half hour every 2 hours.

Hey, yes using the XL,  all pipes are 9mm so quite open. Someone using great white is a good thing, it's what I was after thanks. I was worried in case of sludge up from the microbes, after being told no air stones I have bought a small aquarium filter to circulate and airate the water.
