Like the title, does anyones filter set up scrub all of the smell?
I was getting paranoid about it and got a new carbon filter but sure smells like cannabis when I put my nose to the end of the ducting, it's working to the point of the whole flat don't smell like weed but it also isn't scrubbing the smell completely.
Definitely noticed some filters better than others and some strains don't produce as deep of an aroma.
Also noticing when it's warmer and feels more humid the smell is stronger, remember reading carbon filters don't work as well with higher humidity.
What's the rest of Percy's saying?
@greentomato yer it can be leaky and let smells out sometimes mate, especially when it humid. When the charcoal gets wet, it won't scrub the air as well as it should. It also diminishes with age, or quality of the charcoal. A good filter should work well for a few months at least, you should be able to get a few grows out of it before you really need to start to worry about the smells leaking. but that will depend on many things.
If you're concerned, get a new filter mate. You can't put a price on piece of mind

@greentomato mine is starting to fail a little and I have a week left, so I stuck some insence sticks in the outlet to make it smell like a hippie, seems to have helped for a few days. gonna try a dryer sheet each morning next.
Regarding Macky's comment... I am currently dealing with a lot of humidity though so that makes sense I guess, like when your car battery is starting to die, you notice it when the temp drops.
@greentomato From my past experiences, when it gets humid and the smell is strong that’s a sign to replace your filter. How long have you had the filter for? Like Macky said, I good filter will you get few months at least. I’ve been using AC Infinity carbon filters and I get a solid 8 months plus out of the filer. Another thing you can try is to reverse the flanges. Essentially put the air intake on the other side to buy you some time. Take your smell seriously if you’re in prohibition land.
Be a good person!
@greentomato I know in the past I’ve change my filter and still had a faint smell. It ended up being small pin hole leaks in the ducting. Spent a few $bucks$ and got some quality ductwork. Solved my issue.

Its been a few years back but I did clean mine using a teaspoon of salt per gallon, letting it set for overnight & cleaning by dunking in a 5 gal bucket then rinsing afterwards then air dry and putting it a UV light sanitizer that I use for sanitizing equipment .I believe the UV reactivates the charcoal . I would do this after every grow alternating between two carbon filters . For a smell problem , Home Depot/Lowes sells a product that you can put in your home filter or canister that the exhaust air would smell like jasmine or potpourri , fresh forest , etc. But I’ve been lucky enough not needing to worry about the smell so far . Good luck Im sure you’ll think of something.
@greentomato sneaky trick I used to use was to throw a bunch of those car air freshener trees into the ducting near the outlet, just replace them every month or so. Carbon filters with proper Australian charcoal are great but some strains are just too stinky even for the best of filters. As @macky said when they get damp or old they become less effective at removing the smells. I am yet to find a filter that can stand up to a true skunk and scrub 100% of that smell. Slowing that exhaust fan down a bit will also aid in letting the filters do their work.
I feel like a, like a slice of butter... melting on top of a big-ol' pile of flapjacks... yeah.
@bubblehok great tip mate I’ll try that.
and for everyone asking it’s a brand new filter/ducting both from ac infinity, I installed it about 2 weeks ago. I am running a passive intake. I got it cos my other ducting and filter was old.
And it’s not a crazy strong smell it just smells like weed when it comes out the end of the ducting and didn’t expect that with a brand new filter!
@backblast hoping that’s not the case, ducting is brand new 😅
