Hello friends!! Since joining the forum, I have been readying our soon to be grow room and doing a bunch of research. Since I am converting a closet, I had to build a wardrobe for my clothes. That's done. On to the fun stuff!!!
As you'll see in the pic, I have a nice clean slate to design and build an awesome grow room.
Here’s what I am working with:
The closet is 58.5” wide, 5’ deep and 88” tall.
I can exhaust out through the ceiling - the attic is above and so I plan to run ducting to allow warm wet air directly outside and not into the attic space.
I can run an intake through the lower outer wall of the closet.
There is plenty of electricity nearby that I can re-route / tap into safely (I am experienced with this sort of thing).
My objectives and parameters are the following:
Have enough space for 3 plants growing at the same time on the same cycle.
I'll be drying in the same space post harvest and then starting another round of plants when the first harvest is curing in jars elsewhere.
I'll be working with auto flowers in soil.
I'm going with LED for lighting.
We do not want any odor in the living space and I don't want to waste energy or have much if any leakage of air and humidity.
Easy to clean.
Not too cramped for space.
We are new to growing cannabis.
We are willing to invest in this set up since we know it will pay for itself and want the best of the best or at least the second best of everything

So, experienced growers…
How would you go about this?
What lights and fans would you go for?
Would you buy a tent kit and throw it in there or if you had the time and know-how would you build the space out with construction materials as a dedicated long term grow space?

What an awesome space to have to play with, you’ll have plenty of options.
If was me I wouldn’t bother with a tent unless you only need to grow a small amount, if so you could put a 2x4 or a 3x3 in there, either should grow 3 autos and you’ll have storage space left in the room. Also if smell is a big concern you could probably just about fit in there too with the door closed for watering, maintenance etc.
Lights, fans etc will be pretty much personal choice once they are sized correctly depending If going inside a smaller tent or filling that whole room.
If you decided to use the full room it looks a perfect template to simply hang a light in, sort your extraction and away you go
In that space I would paint the walls bright white. I would make a hole in the celling for extraction. With enough negative pressure you wont get any smell leak into the house unless to door is open. 6 inch extraction and carbon filter should be plenty for a space that size.
With that, I would go for the HLG diablo scorpion, because its the dogs bollax!! It would work great in that space. The door opens outwards too so bonus! You can easily get 4 plants in there

I typed out a whole thing on this subject yesterday and then lost it all when I hit send. Oh bother! My 2 cents is first, paint the walls and ceiling with two coats of high gloss paint. This isn't for it reflectiveness but cuz it will seal the drywall against the smell and moisture from penetrating through it. That closest is dry and has very little paint on the walls and ceiling, so seal it all in first and then a final coat of flat white for it's reflectiveness.
Blanks check you say 🤔 I'd go with a chilLED X6 or HLG 650R for a single 5x5 light or 3 mars hydro fc3000 for individual lights for each plant. As Macky said a 6 inch fan would be plenty but I'd go with an 8 inch exhaust fan, because why not lol. I'd have 3 plants in an L-shape so you still have room to get to all 3 plants and also have room for the humidifier, dehumidifier, fans, propogator, and whatever else you might want to cram in there. If you're going to vent outside, make sure you put a fine mesh over the duct so pests can't make their way into your grow space. Same goes for your intake opening.
