Hi guys, l am in the process of buying a shed with a separate growing space in a new property l have moved too.
The houses are relatively close together from being a new build so l am concerned regarding smell.
As we all know smell is the main cause for being busted and with my current job that cannot happen!! . I don't mind spending an extra bit of dollar for better equipment but what would people recommend for smell or best long lasting carbon filtration. . I am thinking of filling all cracks in this shed with standard DIY filler and adding breathable membrane plus insulation . under no circumstance can there be any smell leaving shed growing space. Any ideas guys.
@smg, Here's my 2 cents. Carbon filters, any of the name brand with the virgin Aussie carbon. Phresh, or Can, ??
I don't know how big your grow is, but I run a 8" high temp exhaust fan with a 8"x24" filter. Then I have a 6" exhaust for humidity with a 6"x24" filter. Both are independently controlled. Both go up through the roof, but they have to stay separate. Don't try and "Y" them together, not even at the top, they will still "bleed" into each other. I know this for a fact.
Don't run your filter when you don't need it, like in seedling-early veg.
Filters are expensive so if you need to you can re-load your filter yourself with new fresh carbon from Delta Adsorbents, they have their Cannablend Select. I haven't tried it myself but I will be in the next few months.
I posted a thread about this topic here at Percy, you'll have to do a search for it. Hope this helps man.
Don't forget the misdirect! Grow lots of smelly flowers around the shed and in your yard. That also gives reason for all of the soil, media, nutrients etc. Nosy neighbors and all. Haha

Close proximity living and cannabis prohibition is definitely not an ideal situation, I will second a few of those options already put forward as far as not using Y connectors as they tend to either create a pressurized point and it will effect the ability of the fans to effectively extract the air. I would also look into high fragrance varieties of flower or herbs for your garden, Fragrant thyme, lavender, sage, lemon balm etc all produce heavy scent profiles and will help mask the odor of cannabis to most except for a seasoned cannabis grower/smoker, in full flower a few bags of chook poo around the garden will help divert attention. I would suggest Carbon filters with Australian charcoal beds, they are the best for scrubbing the scents, bear in mind any filter will restrict the flow so when buying your extraction fans make sure to take note of the CFM rating and adjust accordingly. Other than that i would suggest a double entry door, so almost like a small airlock so that you can walk in and close the outer door then open the internal door, you would be suprised how much smell can and will leak as you open the door/ tent flap and that will subsequently come flying out the door when you open it to go in. Other than that good luck mate !
I feel like a, like a slice of butter... melting on top of a big-ol' pile of flapjacks... yeah.

Absolutely loving this idea. It helps deal with sight issues as well as smell. I’ll add my enthusiasm for cover smells. In summer I use Basil and Rosemary. Even if their smells don’t exactly match cannabis their odors are strong enough for your average Joe to automatically put smell and herbs together for a normal explanation. I also use lots of potted plants outdoors and my neighbors never are suspicious of my gardening. If this were me I’d try to get a water source and some kind of a drain inside the shed too so it doesn’t look odd you carrying buckets of liquid in and out of the shed regularly.

I would also be concerned with the amount of foot traffic going in and out of the shed. The distance you have to walk to the shed. So like Bubblehok said about the double enter, you don't want to be flashing light at night when you have to go out and do something. Food for thought.
