High All, I am looking to replace my ph test strips with a digital ph meter. Looking for recommendations on an affordable decent quality meter without spending to much coin. What do you use? How long have you used it? I would go with Blue Labs but, it isn't in my budget right now. Thanks!
@terppopotamus my first decent Ph pen was/is the Apera PH20. It’s about $50usd on Amazon. It has up to 3 point calibration, does not require a special storage solution, is very accurate, and is waterproof. One downside is that it does not have replaceable probes, but I’ve not seen the need in 3 years of careful use. This is a cheaper option to the blue labs meter that does the job well.

Tbh I went through about 6 different cheep ones they lasted about a mth
save up & buy a good one honestly the cheep £10 ones are just not worth the hassle or the cost of replacing them
now I’ve a blulabs one I definitely wouldn’t buy the real cheep ones again
the ones monkey is talked about is one I’d try I’ve heard only good things about them ones
Amazon has a Blulab for $82 usd down from $112, Milwaukee has one for $75. Anything cheaper I wouldn't use, I haven't had good luck with them. I've found that any of these meters are expensive and you get what you pay for. My first one was $35 and never functioned right, that now trash. My expensive Hanna is a dream and costly too. It's hard to find a bargain. The one thing I do look for is replaceable probe tips so if it goes bad replace the probe tip and not the whole unit. Then make sure you get a replace to have on hand, you will need it sometime. Some folks like the Apera but the one I have I'm not happy with, that's being nice.
@terppopotamus I'd save up an extra month or two and get the blue lab, that's what I did and I'm glad I did. I had a couple cheap ones but they either didn't work or only worked once or twice. I got mine at my local shop, it was 88$, plus there was another 10% off. It comes with enough calibration fluid to set it up and get through a month before you need more. Also blue lab doesn't work well with RO and distilled water without first adding a couple drops of calmag or something first. If you search Google and Amazon you can find one on sale somewhere and probably a discount code too. Good luck

@monkeydo Thank you, I will look more into this one. Seems legit. Is it simple to use and easy to re calibrate?
@mix Thanks, That is exactly what I was afraid would happen with those cheaper pens.
@woodi2 Thanks, I was worried about those cheaper options being junk. I will just bite the bullet and get a good one. Appreciate it.
- @mrgrowsalot Thanks, I will look for a deal and get a good one. Good advice about testing Distilled water. I'm sure I will have more questions in the future.
If you are getting your mate to send you a good pH meter that he doesn't use anymore make sure he sends it before smoking a gram of hash and forgetting to put it in the box lol
