I've just started using a homemade auto feeder using a 40l flexitank reservoir and 3D printed hydro halos. Nutes are GH Triple with calmag. The nute solution was sitting for about 10 days and I didn't use it all as the girls are still seedlings. The reservoir got a bit smelly and brown slime was in the bottom when I cleaned and changed it out. The room is dark and the lid is zipped up.
How often do you clean out your res and would you just recommend water or should I clean it with Milton or Bleach? From what I've read some people don't seem to clean it during a grow and simply refill it. Moving forward the tank shouldn't sit for so long between refills.

@juffle Back in my hydro days I would clean the res fully every 7-10 days. I would constantly top it up with fresh feed though, every day or 2, and that would have some H2O2 in it to help keep the res sterile and clean too.

@juffle you can buy it from the grow shop usually mate..... its beena long time since i did hydro, but i think i used to get a vitalink bottle of it. Made specifically for hydro

Did you use an air stone? Got to keep it aerated.
Temperature is important too. I run hydro. I made the mistake of letting the temperature of my reservoir get in the upper 70s once. It fermented, stank and turned into goo.
Keeping the temp low helps a lot. I have a chiller now but used to put my reservoir on the concrete floor in warm weather. I used frozen bottles too.

Hey @Juffle, so are you using this to just mix in or is this a top off re? Either way if it holds mixed nutrients then it has to be keep dark and bubbled. You treat it just like any other mixed nutz solution and it has the same life expectance so you have to drain and rinse with each water change. It's just house keeping, you don't want to eat off a dirty plate. lol I mix in a large container and if there leftover then I put it in a smaller bucket for top off, but if your automated then air and movement is key I would think. Hey @juffle cool. What percent H2O2 did you get? You need to be using 3%, but if you have 34%, 12% or something like that then it needs to be diluted to 3%. Once it's at 3% then this chart will give you amounts to use. But be very careful with high strength H2O2, the stuff will burn you. Wear gloves and work smart.
There are dilution charts for whichever percent H2O2 you have At My Chemical-Free House. Hope this helps, good luck.
@juffle, if your just using the 3% H2O2 for cleaning that's cool. If your going to run a Dead Rez, (that's when you use H2O2 daily) then you'll want to use the 34%-35%, it's cleaner. The 3% stuff from the drug store has different preservatives and isn't as pure as the 34%. I only use it for cleaning and root rot. It's great stuff, just everything's has it use, be careful. 👍
