Hey guys

After my little intro the other month I now finally have my own place and after a few renovation bits that needed to take priority Im getting to sorting out my loft for my first grow since about 15 years ago at uni.

It's going to be a loft grow. I have to still use my loft for storage etc so I'll have enough room for a 1.2m x 1.2m (loft) tent as well as a 60cm x 1.2m (low height) tent for veg.

I plan on a living soil grow and have already got my wormery on the go making use of food scraps etc 😀

I have insulated and boarded the loft floors, have got some decent foil roll insulation on all of the rafters and the electrician is sorting out a consumer box in there this weekend for my "bitcoin mining servers" 🤐.

So anyways Im almost to the point of wanting to buy things and when I see offers come up maybe jump on them.

I'd love some thoughts on what sort of lights and environmental equipment to purchase.

Until now I had been planning on getting a Lumatek 600w pro LED for the flower tent and no idea for the veg tent. I recently spoke to invisible sun who recommended using a 480w for flower (4bar F bar light) and the smaller 2 bar Vbar light for the smaller veg tent.

If anyone has some input on led grow lights in 1.2msq tents (and the smaller veg) that'd be great?

The other side Im a little lost on to be honest. Now with EC vs AC fans I have no Idea but I know loft growing is an extreme sport with the huge swings. So I feel like I need to have something automating my environment for one thing. Also will I need to have both intake and outtake fans for both tents? The intake will be sourced from a bedroom below. Also being in the bedroom below myself I don't want to hear constant fan noise or the mrs will just kick off.

I don't know if this plays into it to but I plan on keeping clones in the veg tent to?

I know I have other things like humidity to think about but thought it was best to look into the pricey bits first.

Any help would be ace

We have many grower with that size -

Questions are

on what medium / style do you want to grow ? will have impact on nutes etc.

how is your enviroment / climate where you live ? this does have an impact on the genetics you should go for

what are you able to spend in money for equipment ? ish is very good choice for light as far as I know

can you get an AC Infinity wher you are ? would be the best choice

Its also recommend to use an inkbird to control humidity.

You should not forget about fans for the inside as "wind" is an very important factor. It strentghens up your plants and avoids water to condense as well as keeping the air mixed up.

Plants are like children - always surprising you.

@yoshi

Personally I'm using the HLG 650R in a 1.2 x 1.2 AC Infinity tent, its absolutely smashing it. Got it currently dialed back, always best to over spec lights, as when you upgrade the tent to bigger, you shouldn't to a certain degree have to upgrade the light...😁

@yoshi hi mate I'm in the exact same position as you. I've gone for a 1.2x1.2 roof qube with a migro array 8. Medium I use is ecothrive living soil with just water for the moment hope this helps. I'm currently still in veg but everything has been fine upto now, good luck.

Thanks guys.

I'll be a living soil grow (either 4 large fibre pots or a single bed haven't decided yet)

Im based in the UK (south) so its not hot but the summer months can get very hot and being a loft its even hotter (air con isn't an option though) the temp in the house (where the intake is coming from) is never too hot though even if it is 34c outside etc.

You can get AC infinity on occasion in the UK but I've heard bad things about using them with other environmental controllers and the thermostats not being great that they come with as they turn off completely or something is the temps are too cool?

I had been looking at getting a G.A.S Enviro Controller for the flower tent which works with AC/EC fans for the flower room and getting oversized (8 INCH) RVK fans as I'd heard to oversize and run on half speed as then thats just as quiet as silent fans plus if it gets really hot at some point in the summer I could keep them on full blast. Then I was thinking of maybe just an exhaust fan for the veg tent and no intake fan?

Are you guys just using the AC infinity (ec) fans as an exhaust fan with a passive intake?

Budget wise I don't want to pay twice so I want to get something that will last and I can depend on. Ideally I want to save my money wherever I can but not if its going to screw me over in the long run.

Thats one of the main reasons I'm torn with AC/EC fans and even silenced models as I'd love to get x4 silenced EC fans both with their own GAS Enviro controller but realistically I wont have anything left after I buy my lights then.

@yoshi hi mate

sounds like youve done a great job getting your loft prepped and are ready to pop some seeds!

i use similar spaces in my loft but no tent for the flower.. did use a roof cube before which work fine so your good with your 4x4 and 2x4 for veg.

light wise a migro 240 fits perfectly into a 2x4 but at around £300 aint cheap but is a high quality light.

For flower youd want 2 of these or the 600w lumitek is also a great choice.

all comes down to your budget i guess.

Mars also do competitive lights. and as time goes by the market place is getting crowded with high quality leds rather quickly lol

i would recommend you check out shanes migro channel on utube where he reviews lights impartially and gives excellent information. youll definitely see something you like and in your budget. beware in a 4x4 some of these 600w ish lights are too much on full unless using supplementary co2 and are more apt for 5x5 araes eg think grow 630 / hlg diablo / etc.. you can always however turn them down ! lol

personally im using migro, have had excellent customer service and yields are fantastic and theyre not cheap, reassuringly so imo

hows your extraction gonna work bro?

living soil in a loft is tricky and alot of weight so make sure your floor is up to it!

check out @Twisted1's grow for a proper living soil bed or @Hart's or @TempleGrower's

have a look at mine for loft use and equipment if helpful bro

good luck and have fun with it

Time to pop some more beans 😗

Thanks mate.

I did think 'o crap' about the weight of the soil but I did remove an old water storage tank from up there and I'd assume that if the joists can take the weight of a full bathtub of water then it should be ok? I have also used the boards across the beams to stiffen them up. I might be able to add a few extra things to really make sure that the weight is being spread the best it can.

I checked out the Migro Instagram and saw he was reviewing alibaba lights etc to, good stuff. I'll have a look into their lights though. Theres a new lumtek 480w led coming out soon that I've also had my eyes on.

My extraction should be pretty easy as I have a disused chimney next to the grow that I can vent out of. Then the intake would come from the bedroom below hidden above some built in wardrobes (not inside the wardrobes).

There really are too many lights now haha.

I think its just the environment thats really making me go back and forth. I travel for work sometimes and it'd be great to just go away for a few days and not panic.

Yes, that’s the way I run mine and it always is up to the task. I’m not aware of anyone having problems with these

@yoshi

If you're going for the 'T' Series Infinity fan, then upgrade to the controller 67, as the previous controller had major issues.

Not had a single issue with mine so far (touch wood)...😉

Ah great thanks It must have been the old controllers as I saw a bunch of posts about them turning off in flower and the whole house stinking etc, wouldn't be fun if I was away for a few days haha.

What sized AC Infinity's would you go for? A 6inch for the 1.2m x 1.2m and 4inch for the 1.2 x 60cm?
