Questions What light to get for 4x4 ?

@mykotik hey mate nice choice on the 4x4, it's a good amount of space to grow some nice sized plants in.  Do you have a budget you are working too? And is there a style you prefer? ie bar vs board. Just gives us a bit more info so we can offer suggestions in your price range. 

If you have high temp issues in your neck of the woods, being able to mount the driver outside of the tent is a consideration when looking at lights. 

@bubblehok I like both the bar type and the flat ones .I have about 350-400 I’d say to spend on one right now. 

@mykotik ok sorry bro just so I'm not suggesting lighting outside your budget after conversion rates (being an Aussie our dollar fluctuates from one day to the next lol) where in the world are you located? Just so I can give you recommendations that suit your currency budget

If he’s in the UK, Mygro “Array 8” would be a contender in my opinion, at the top end of his budget though. I have an “Array 2” in my 2x2, and comes with everything to mount the Driver remotely. I’m happy with it so far. 

The lowest cost but still a good starting light for a 4x4 would be the Mars Hydro TS3000. Also within the budget would be quantity 2 Mars TSL2000 lights. I’m partial to using 2 lights because it gives the ability to adjust light height and intensity on independently on each side of your tent as needed.

I’m not partial to mars but they have lights that will fit your application and fall within your established budget. Their service after the sale hasn’t been the best if you have a warranty or shipping issue so big negative there.

I believe that a 240 watt light is only about half as strong as needed for a 4x4. Something around 400 watts would be the minimum I’d recommend.

@monkeydo given he is on a budget I was looking at min light I would recommend. 480W would be better for sure but that depends on how many plants and how full he wants to go. If he’s only growing one or two plants a 240W LED would be fine I think to start with.

@greenplanet I understand based on the explanation but from experience I’d always recommend the light you actually need in the space for best results because I’ve seen it a million times before, you buy less light than you need and within a year you are trashing it and buying something you should have in the first place. I speak from experience, I’ve got quite a few shelf space stealing lights now that simply weren’t good enough long term and are just hanging around the place taking up valuable shelf space now.

@monkeydo I know that feeling as well unfortunately 🫣 but personally I think it’s pretty easy to start with a 2 bar LED at 240W or a 240W QB and then add another one or extra bars as you go. That said I take your point and and feel your pain as I also have a lot of things I wish I’d both upgraded and downsized lying around. 😔
