If you're growing regular, non-feminized seeds, chances are you might be wondering how to tell whether or not you're going to produce huge juicy buds (female seedless flowers - sinsemilla) or big swingin' dicks (male flowers).

Well fear not! There is a super simple way. Cannabis will begin to produce 'pre-flowers' as early as 4 weeks of vegetative growth (but usually closer to the 5th week), typically as soon as the plant reaches its 5th to 6th nodes (where the leaves grow out from the stem).

The pre-flowers look identical to the actual flowers, except only one seed bract/stamen is produced at each node.  What you want to see are two small white hairs (stigmas) popping out of that little false seed bract.

If, however, you find little bunches of pseudo-bananas, best to get that out of the vicinity, or you're gonna have a bad day. The only caveat is that you have to grow it longer than 4 weeks before flipping to take advantage of this feature, otherwise you'll just have to wait and see!

Was wondering about this the other day cause the outdoor gorila.glue looks so scraggly compared to the others. But its got no banana hammocks so we're good i think!

Made this post a sticky!! Excellent work man, I love that others can write guides here too! Takes some weight off my shoulders, but gives some diversity in the content too 🙂 Nice one Temple!

All good mang. I have a bunch more stuff to share, just gotta find time to sit down and do it thoroughly and make it decent.. Pretty sure it's how we all learned though, one way or another, using guides/sites/books/mentors etc., so gotta pay that shit forward.

I'm gonna stick this in here just so you know if you don't already. There is a company here in Massachusetts that will do a DNA on plant samples for $10 and you can find out the sex and genetic profile without the wait. The option is great if you have limited space. What costs more? 4-5 weeks of electricity or $10 for a quick test? It all depends on your individual situation... Today you have options!

Thats a good way to find out what female characteristics, a male plants has, before crossing it with another strain

We have this here in Canada as well, but I'm pretty sure it's hella more $$$ than $10 unfortunately. Definitely something to look into though if you don't have a long enough veg time to see preflowers.
