Hi, I have a 1mx1mx2m tent with a 400w hps which is in week 5 of flowering. Would they benefit from changing to a 600w hps for the last few weeks or might this cause some problems? Obviously heat, but assuming this is dealt with. I have a 600w bulb sitting there and my ballast can do either.

My heart says yes but i'm just worried that it will freak them out. In nature light intensity gradually decreases over time.

I wouldn't want them to revert to veg or anything crazy like that!

I would run them on 600w for all of flowering but trying to keep electricity costs down a little bit.

Anyone added more intensity mid flower?

Thanks for any help.

I don’t run HPS but my practice is the opposite, decrease illumination a bit in the last few weeks. It will be interesting to see if this helps or not. Keep us informed mate.

Haha, dang. Two different opinions and I agree with both on principal. I will probably try it unless anyone else chimes in with why not.

Will let you know how it goes.

Only 2 plants, were topped and scrogged to pretty much fill the area. A very noticeable difference between the two in flower despite both being Barney's Glookies seeds. Slightly different phenotypes I guess. Will be interesting to see how they compare to each other. One is more frosty but the other has bigger colas.

Thanks guys.

Mid flower should should be fine. Do you have a dimmer on your ballast? You really want to slowly build and then slowly decrease light intensity during the flowering stage. Maximum light intensity being in the middle.

No, no dimmer, just 250/400/600/600+ watt switch. So that's two votes for dimming towards the end...

IMO your trying to copy nature

In the spring there's less light/heat, mid summer full heat/light and autumn again, less light and the temps drop telling the plants there running out of time, some growers turn the light down and reduce the hours the light to copy nature, could reduce harvest time and increase resin production (don't know if this works), cold night temps bring out blue colour buds (blueberry strains).
