Questions Do plants drink less when they're ready to be chopped?

Hi, I have a beast of a plant in a 5 gal DWC bucket. Its trichomes are a perplexing mix of clear, cloudy, and amber. But the thing I wonder is whether the fact that it is still drinking 1/2 gal a day is somehow meaningful? The leaves are almost all really yellow and thin. Could this moisture be constructive in terms of buds filling out or is it more likely to be evaporation of some kind?

I am weighing whether to chop her tomorrow or next weekend and wondering whether her drinking should be a factor.

Thanks for any wisdom anyone may offer.

@matommy As a rule of thumb yes you would usually see them slow down on how much they are drinking as you get closer to the chop, however as with everything there can be variables. I would not use it as a sole indicator that she is ready to come down. Personally i use a mixture of trichome head ripeness, calyx maturity and overall plant maturity to ascertain when she is ready to chop. I have had plants continue to drink, trichomes not amber up etc, so gauging the plant as a whole is by far a better method than one factor alone. Any chance you have some picture of the plant and or some close ups of the trichomes? it is easier to help if we can get a visual of the culprit in question Smile

@matommy whenever your ready you could chop her looking at those pics. She looks right in the harvest window so the longer you leave it now the more you will get a couchlock effect, personally I go 10-15%amber, some people prefer it at 20% some even more, and some less. If you are unsure as to what your preference is you can always take a few branches now and leave a few on the plant for a touch longer, then choose which you prefer so you have a reference for your next run.

@matommy, your dwc will continue to drinking cause she's still alive. You probably have the RH very low so she just drinking water because it's so dry, maybe. If she has gone the full time frame (according to the breeder) then yes she'll shut down at the end. I'm not a big fan of couch-lock so I take mine slightly early, but then I've heard some strains (a few) have a hard time turning amber. Good luck man, I think whatever you do you'll be happy with your finished product, she looks amazing and very ready. Great work.

@unshaw Thanks for asking! I use a climate controlled machine to dry because I have screwed it up too many times. I harvested a week ago today and have one more week of drying before the cure. They're looking good, but I haven't tried anything yet.
