I was listening to the HOHG podcast today on iTunes about bugs and it got me thinking that I really am not prepared for a "critter" attack.

There are high-end products like Regalia and the rest of their product lines (see photo) that are standard among commercial growers. However, these are expensive for the home grower.

So, I have two questions:

1) What 3 products should you have on hand for your indoor tent?

2) If you could only afford one product that would cover the most-likely IPM needs, what would you keep on hand?

@exnavyinstl you only really need some castile soap, some sticky traps and some neem oil Smile That should be able to deal with any bug issue Smile See this post:

Hey mate, for me I always have Ed Rosenthals Zero Tolerance Herbal Spray, Diatomaceous Earth and Hot Shots Mosquito dunks handy, every bug I have come across indoors has been able to be controlled with either a combination of or one of the mentioned products. Some products cannot be used in flower so making sure anything I use is going to be safe for me to consume the buds afterwards is paramount to me.

If I have the time I will make up my own soap spray and or soap dish traps but for store bought pest specific products the above mentioned ones have never steered me wrong. Checkout the link @macky posted as it is way easier than people think to make your own and there are ways to make your own sticky traps too for helping identify which if any bugs you have to target. Just my two cents anyway hope it helps Smile

@bubblehok

Does Diatomaceous Earth still work when it gets wet?

Thanks @Macky for the homemade link. I have made the one with soap and Neem oil. But at the time I was making to combat fungus gnats. Then I learned that doesn't work for them, then I discovered Misquito Bits (like the Dunks). I've been putting reusable bags of bits in the resevoiur, but because I bottom feed it takes long for the effects to rise closer to the surface. I'll start adding it to my cal/mag mix that I do put on the surface.

I ordered the Ed Rosenthal stuff and I have DE already. I just thought it becomes inert once wet. Still learning.

No it has to be dry to work properly mate.... and its not really good to use, if you do use it, wear a face mask to prevent breathing it in, its not good for you. For fungus gnats, just letting the medium dry out on the top 2 inches works ok. Do that a couple of times and the numbers will be reduced. Using some sticky traps along side that can massively reduce their numbers too. It might not get rid of them completely, but it will keep them below a level where they are not causing any damage to the plants.

For me the only 2 products I use right now are mosquito dunks and neem oil. I haven’t used the neem in years and try to avoid using if possible. The one I couldn’t do without is the dunks because growing in coco gnats are almost guaranteed and if you are careful the others can be avoided.

A third item that I keep around as a nuclear option just in case is the Hot Shot No Pest Strip. Never have needed it but better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it in this case.

Still trying to figure it out.  Been using neem oil and mosquito bits along with various sample bottles I get.  Subscribing to see what others use.

@exnavyinstl As @macky mentioned it doesn't work once wet, I use it as a combination remedy with the dunks and when the plants are young because the coco doesn't need as regular feed intervals until they roots start feeling their way out anyway so it gives the DE a chance to work as i can go a day without feeding when they are that young without too many negative effects. I will say i use 100% food grade DE however it is still advisable to wear a mask as silicate on the lungs is not great, but if you ingest some or get some on you its a simple rinse to clean off. I came up learning from old head growers that would use tomato dust with zero regard for the end product because that was the done thing, so DE is always around my garden, I also use it on my outdoor gardens for grubs etc rather than the tomato dust, just because its non toxic to the plants and animals and easy to dust over the plants if need be. I will say i wont use it in flower though, don't want that stuff anywhere near your buds as its a prick to get off and i don't want to smoke DE lol.
