I've put my old HPS light back in my tent alongside my new LED light and I'm hoping for the best!!

To be honest I've been disappointed with my LED light.  It's a Spider Farmer SF1000 which I understand is supposed to give the equivalent of 1000w HPS with only 100w consumption.  That claim doesn't stand up in my experience.  I have an 80cm x 80cm tent and I grow just one auto at a time.  I was getting great results with just a 250w HPS but now after 11 months using LED I realise how much my yields have gone down and, to be honest, I've noticed no difference in my electricity consumption.

So I have put both lights in together and wait to see what happens!  I am just finishing a Dinafem Amnesia XXL auto and the yield looks like it's going to be very poor, maybe only 50 - 60 grams whereas I was getting three times that much with HPS.

I can only keep it going for maybe another two weeks max, so I'll be interested to see if it makes any difference in that time.

I have a BSB Genetics Diablo XL auto seedling ready to go in as soon as and in the past I have had fantastic results from this cultivar.

@peterreynolds Hi Peter, hope youre well mate.

The SF1000, and many lights like it do not do what they say on the tin.

The best LED light companies are Invisible Sun or HLG, Mars Hydro or ok, for a mid range LED< but for something that'll beat HID lights, Invisible sun or HLG is the way to go Smile

Did spider farmer message you with that old " we will send you a free light, you just run a diary" speil lol. They have been spamming me for months mate. I wouldn't recommend them.

Yeah, never gonna be a replacement for 1000w HPS...always full of shit when selling their lights, lol, desperationship...either tell the truth or make better lights fuckers...its MARS hydro in a different disguise BTW 😉

I have issues with a certain manufacturers light/tent combo that is fine in veg but too small for flower so my yield would also suffer so its just a veg tent now 🙁

Hope it works for you mate...I find that for LEDs to be anywhere near 1000w HPS, they have to pull at least 700w and even then, its a push

Yes they did send me a free light and I did do them a short 'unboxing' video, so I can't really complain as it didn't cost me a penny.

Thanks for the info. Based on my experience I would say the SF1000 is about the same as 150w HPS.  Do you think I'll get any benefit from running them both together?

I'll look at Invisible sun and HLG.  What power would you say is max I can use in an 80cm tent?

ISH 265 would work well in that space, or equiv HLG260

The problem is a 250w hps is a good flower light in a 80 x 80 or even better is the 315w cmh

Some leds maybe more effective than leds but you need to use similar amounts of electric from my understanding to get the same results 200w led = 250w hps

Is it worth the investment?

That's why I am still running with hps.

315w cmh

Couple of times I have heard the CMH bought up this week. My plants loved the CMH, highly recommend that if you cant get a good LED.

But with LED efficiency, my wife tells me the electricity bill is at least half of what it used to be when i ran a 600w HPS. The ISH 530 doesn't use that much, but put out equivalent of 1000w HPS, there is definitely a saving on the bill when you go high end, they are just very expensive on the initial cost

I've gone mid-range with a couple of Mars Hydro LED's. They're pretty good thus far. However given the decision again I think I would have waited and gone Migrow or ISH.

Time to grow old disgracefully.

Thanks @macky, the leds look really good.

Just looked up the 530 led and it looks very effective but it's going to cost £700 and from my local grow shop more like £750

Say the light 40% more efficient than HPS

(Extra power) x (hours on per day ) x( days per week) x (total weeks used) x (cost per kW)

0.4kw x 12 x 7 x 9 x 0.19 =£57.46p

saving per crop

Also I dim the hps down for the first 2 weeks in flower, that saves some electric and the last week in flower.

So it's more like £50 saving per crop, 1kw vs 530, going to take me 10 crops to get my money back.

1kw hps light kit (£200) vs 530 led (£700).

When the price drops I will be jumping on the leds.

I was looking mid way but decided on a 750w adjust a wing (£400) on a lightrail ( picked one up for £70 second hand )

This should cover a 2m x 1m canopy with good results, lightrail keeps the light moving very slowly. giving all the canopy a good amount of light and removing the hot spot and allowing me to lower the light closer to the canopy (6" closer)

But the canopy has to be level for this to work.

Screenshot 20210304 084101 DuckDuckGo

The lightrail allows the light to cover 30% more canopy and only uses 5w
