I just recently started getting into artifact hunting and my kids and I have found a couple nice projectile points so far. Just curious if anyone else here is into it as well? I’m in the southern tier region of NY

Thumbs Up

Constantly finding old clay tobacco pipes in my garden when I dig in my plants. Literally dozens of them. Kind of interesting.

@gelert Yeah it's pretty cool. I've always wanted to try and clean one out to smoke herb but they all have super thin stems and I couldn't be arsed. Like incredibly thin. That, and they're usually smashed to shit xD

@denizen, those could be ancient Monkeydo pipes. First discovered in the northern hemisphere a long ass time ago, only a few pieces have ever been found. So if your finding numerous pieces, this could be an ancient @Monkeydo workshop from way back. This could be the birth place of the Monkeydo civilization that hung around this area and just chilled out. Then they traveled south, well they actually went for a walk one day with loaded Monkeydo pipes in hand, but we'll call it traveling, ok. They stopped when they found the warm waters and equally greeting sun of the south. From there we don't know much else. They didn't record any of their history or daily activities. Researches believe the reason for this is the fact that they Monkeydoians (as they're called) only had room to bring bear necessities. So with packed Monkeydo pipes full of God Bud and Strawberry Cough, a walkin they went. But there wasn't a free hand in the bunch to bring alone the 3 ring note book binder that contained their history and so it has been lost.

Perhaps you and your children can unlock the mystery of the Monkeydo peoples that use to hang out in your back yard and make lots of pipes. What a great story to tell your kids. lol

@gelert I’m quite fascinated with Native Americans myself and with history in general but there’s just something about truly being free and living simple that speaks to me. I’ll have to take a picture of the other points I have when I get home from work but my 4 year old son found the smaller black one it’s called a Lamoka bird point and is roughly 3,000 to 5,000 years old made of flint (chert). The one on the left is a Brewerton point roughly 3,000 to 7,000 years old and made of rhyolite. We found these this past weekend. Truly fascinating for sure
