So the start of a New Year and it's out with the old. By this I mean it's goodbye to the three ladies I've been nurturing for the past four and a half months or so, they got the chop today.
It was my third grow in coco. I chose to grow three different strains and this time my inexperience I believe showed.
I found it much harder to keep them all happy. I grew Amnesia Haze, Cookies Gelato and Shogun all by Royal Queen Seeds.
I think so of the challenges really started when I upgraded my lights. I was using two cheapo Amazon specials. Supposedly 1200w a piece though I doubt very much they were anywhere near that.
I replaced them with a Mars Hydro TS3000 (in a 1.2m x 1.2m). Initially everything was hunky dory. Plants looked amazing. However as soon as I flipped them and they stretched the problems started. The Haze raced away. They all set good buds, but that Haze just wouldn't stop. I think if I as more savvy, despite having a glorious cola, I would have restrained it in some way. Instead I just kept raising the light.
This however seemed to work to the detriment of the other plants. The Shogun started showing deficiency with lower leaves discolouring. The RQS blurb said they were a hungry strain and it took me sometime to address this (if I ever really did).
Finally I think just plain old inattention allowed me to take my eye off the ball. The RH dropped too low, too long and none of the plants were really flourishing.
There's a good amount of bud and actually all the plants have made very sizeable nice looking 'pop corn'. The upper colas look a little drier than I would have liked. Just as well they're going for oil ! Think I'll still gave some fun with the lower colas.
My feeling is that coco may be not be quite for me. Time restraints and my impetuous nature serve to let me get distracted. I think I will have a better 'feel growing in soil, as that is what I've done for the last 50years (what an old bastard I am😁).
Shall be popping the next grow tomorrow. Onwards and upwards!
Time to grow old disgracefully.
Hi @toploader
I enjoyed your right up n it’s good to know there are more dreamers out there.
I have only done a couple of grows over the past 3 yrs on n off with various results. From the start I have been trying to grow multiple strains to have the choice, all in soil. It’s been a bit off head fuck at times. Bought myself a 1.2x1.2 with new 300w led from daylight n a scrog net all for £400 “gulp” it was worth it.
im feeling 4 plants in 15ltr pots, 2 strains.
I’ve only grown in soil but I hear it’s more forgiving.
good luck on the next grow.
@littleg there's fun in learning. I definitely made mistakes, but I have had such enjoyment 😁
I can hardly wait now to get the next grow off the ground and see what happens next !

@toploader I totally agree! I learning about the growth process having never grown a thing.
I think I may have a problem though!! I’m trying not to grow every cutting... to many plants at different stages, makes it a bit stressful. I am going to change that n settle into a 4 plant grow 2 tents alternating.
