I planted current grow straight into 7 gal pots. I thought i had autos (jury still out) anyhow planning my next grow none auto and planning moving from shed to a corner inside house room due to bug and light issues.

Just wondering if one can still avoid the several re potting steps by planting directly into large pots with photos beans? Save carting all that extra dirt etc or is my lazy attitude gunna harm yields or set things back?

Secondly

Is 7 gal too large for indoor? 10 would fit perfectly into my tent 2.4 x 1.2 x 2 meters. Thinking of doing a Sativa dominated grow...You Tube vid suggested 5 gal but I notice people here doing well with 3 gal. I can handle 7 gal but being female I do struggle haha but worth the back trouble but just wondering  if I am wasting  resources and energy if 3 or 5gal does a similar job?

Might have more questions shortly BTW loving this site great people great tool.  Fist Bump Thumbs Up

Depending on how much space I have, I put seedlings into final pots on a regular basis, just put my 2 LA Peyote Kush into 25 litres at a week above soil, they're doing fine...as do all of the others 😉

7 Gall is roughly the same as 25 ltr so yeah, all good...I have 4 of them at the moment all Sohum and all doing well...

@bandit Heyo, IMO it depends on whether you want to do a bunch of fertilizing or just sit back for most of the grow and just water. I think 5-7 gallons minimum for a watch and grow. One of the reasons for starting in small containers and then transplanting into larger ones is to establish a branching root system but if left too long the roots will coil and compact around themselves and literally choke themselves and become root bound. Another reason to not plant directly into larger pot is it's easier to over water, the small plant cannot uptake all the water at the bottom of a large container so when the top of soil feels dry and  the bottom is soaking wet causing root rot, one of the most common mistakes growers make is over watering.

  Thumbs Up

We just smiled n waved sittn there on that sack o seeds

I would add 20% sand or perlight in a 25ltr pot as this will reduce the damage to your  plants when you overwater them.

@jacks_farm been noticing you recommend adding sand to heavy soil for drainage, something you don’t hear often. I’ve been doing this for decades in my outdoor ornamentals and it works really well. It’s super easy to find and should be very inexpensive. It’s a really easy fix for any soil grower that’s having drainage issues, especially growers trying to use soil not formulated for cannabis. Good idea 🙂
