For those of you who still use PPM to measure electro-conductivity, which conversion factor do you use?
500 & 700 or something different?
I switched to EC on my second grow when I realized the amount of confusion out there regarding this topic. My first buy was an Amazon PPM stick, and it measured @ 500 conversion. So, I assumed that was the most common in the U.S. Then I upgraded to an Apera PC-60 (5-in-1).
I started logging my data as usual. Then, about two weeks in, I realized the TDS on those come standard (in the US) at just about 700 conversion factor (see graphic from user's manual). I realized I was not feeding what I thought I was feeding. At that point it was E.C. for me.
I'm new at this, but I see people reference PPM all the time, and wonder why not just use E.C. when that is the number that all conversions come from?
Here's a good calculator for going in both directions: PPM to EC and EC to PPM. You just have to know your appropriate conversion factor to get results.

EC is the best way as it is a standard measurement. We have a chart showing the conversations if needed, please don't link outside of the forum mate

I looked at the truncheon. I like it. I decided to go with an all-in-one and partly regret it.

@exnavyinstl I've had my bluelab one now for about 7to8 years and still going strong. One thing is you cant be so precise if you want the exact reading of EC. But I highly recommend it.
After this discussion, I was reading Maximum Yield magazine and saw an ad for a similar model made by Milwaukee. So, I went to research it, and it looks like the same China factory makes both. I compared specs, and the Milwauke was $82 free shipping and no tax. I jumped on it.
I wanted something less dainty than my current pen style. It kind of salted me up when I saw how fragile those tips were on the EC side.
I made a side-by-side graphic.

@exnavyinstl Thanks for that I will refer a friend to the Milwaukee. Good comparison you done there
This is the ad that caught my attention:

I tend to use EC more these days, but for a long time there I was measuring in ppm because I'm Australian and we are weird like that lol.
Being aware of which conversion you need to use can get confusing so I recommend people use EC as its easier for newer growers than trying to work out the conversions on the fly. I mean you could always get a chart hung up with each of the tables to convert back but EC does the job for me.
I feel like a, like a slice of butter... melting on top of a big-ol' pile of flapjacks... yeah.
