Hello fellow stoners. I know we have all had our intense incounters with the cops, my wife and I immigrated to Greece from South Africa two years ago so this is our first bad encounter the other day. I was waiting in the car with my dog for my wife outside right in front our local mini mart. It’s in a small village, everyone knows everyone type deal. The nearest cop station is like 30 mins away so police don’t know people in this area. I noticed a cop drive past in the corner of my vision, next thing they knock on the window... I had just listened to the pot brothers law episode and so many things went through my head. I told the officer my father is from the country as they asked where I’m from. Next thing you know my passenger door is opened by another cop on the passenger side and I notice I’m surrounded by like six of them. I ask the guy “hey why are you opening my door?” he replies “why can’t I?” “Do you have anything illegal it will make things allot easier if you tell us” (I was pretty sure I had nothing as I live close by, I’m not a newbie, I know to get high before I go grocery shopping not roll a doob for the parking lot after to celebrate...
Anyway my wife returns and asked “what do they want?” As she can’t speak Greek I tell her I have no idea why they are surrounding me and intimidating me, flustered, as I’m not used to being surround by six cops with guns. They tell me to get out so I can be searched, they half ass search me and the car (there’s so many spots I could of hid that they didint look but at this point they must of realized I’m just waiting for my wife to buy onions...) anyway apparently it’s legal to search anyone’s car in Greece without any suspicion so for any reason... the cop told me it’s nothing to do with my looks but I have dreadlocks So yea right! they thought they had a for sure bust... well anyway I went on my way embarrassed in front of my local village store . Anyway I felt like I could have dealt better if I knew my rights better. Please share your horror cop stories maybe we can help someone here avoid something like this or atleast give each other a little ammunition in these situations. any countries in Europe to be extra careful in?
@frosty-fire-ant, sorry to hear man. The world is full of different people everywhere. Some are cops and others are waiting for their wife to buy the onions. Either one or all can be Dicks. I been a few places in the world and fine that I try to fly under the radar. I try not to look too different, I don't look well off but not poor either. I don't put sticker of anything on my car. When in Rome I do as the Romans do. But sometimes there nothing you can do and evil fines you. But your smart enough to know not to carry anything with you. They will be Dicks but your not stupid. Let them play their game but if your clean then they can't make you play along. Good luck Brother, breathe a little easier behind the closed doors of your home but always stay aware man. Peace
I remember being pulled over by a small town sheriff a while back. It was a borrowed unfamiliar pickup truck and the wife and I were gathering firewood, we’re fully loaded and returning home. I used to drive a compact car so a full size truck with a bed full of green wood felt heavy so I was driving cautiously. The Sheriff stopped me and when I asked what the problem was he answered “I’ll let you know in a minute”. The MF had absolutely nothing on me but walked around the truck to find something to hassle this “out of town” person for. In the end he wrote a ticket for an expired inspection sticker and “driving suspicious”. WTF, suspicious driving??? I paid the inspection charge and was able to get the other dismissed because technically, that law doesn’t exist. It was his only excuse for stopping me as I did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING illegal. Some law enforcement, not all, can be real dicks with a badge but don’t let them ruin your day.

out of interest, I’m guessing the law are fairly strict on weed in Greece? Booked a holiday for me and the Mrs in Zante, was hoping to bring some along but maybe not a good idea, hoping the islands are a quiet laid back vibe.
@frosty-fire-ant Oh man! What a bunch of BS! I hate it when people stereotype others all because they look different. Combine that with "authority" and you have a recipe for disaster. I am sorry that happened to you, man. It's so good you are smart enough to not have anything on you. This was just outright harassment. Are you sure they can stop and search without cause there or were they just abusing their "authority"?

@rufio I wouldn’t bring any with me as they are pretty strict with laws here... ive heard the islands are more laid back but it’s still difficult to acquire and all there’s no guarantee you’ll find. If you stop by in Athens first exarcheia you’ll find guaranteed but it will most likely be terrible quality.

Some cops Are DICKS! I worked with many. I probably was called one a time or two as well. I’m not pointing out anyone specifically here, just offering another voice/point of view to the discussion.
All that I ask is please consider things from their perspective as well. There is rarely an excuse to be a douche but the Dickhead may just have come from a call where a child was traumatized or any number of heinous acts.
Not all cops choose to be assholes, the job can break even the strongest of minds and turn an otherwise nice person into a ragging motherfucker when they strap on that gun belt. In summary, cops can be dicks sometimes. Stay Great Stay Elevated
