Hello everyone!

just wanted to ask my fellow growers if they have any techniques to reduce stretch?

my girls are on day 3 of 12/12 and I’m starting to wonder if I’ve left it too late😬

any help much appreciated💚

My technique is to do as little defoliation as I can get away with until after the plant is finished stretching. It’s fairly common to see early defoliation cause excess stretch on a plant. Some strains do just stretch a bunch but early defol can make it much worse.

@southwestsmoker    i read somewhere that keeping night time temps within 10 degrees of daytime temps is supposed to help limit stretch

@southwestsmoker hi mate👍

what light are you using and how far away is it?

Light spectrums high in blue keep stretch down and high in red can increase stretch

Therefore if using hps for example you could stick with a metal halide bulb for the first 2 weeks of flower before switching to a full spectrum flowering bulb

good leds will have plenty of blue to lessen stretch

Distance of light also key here.. wants to be as close as poss without stressing the leaves

Are you training or using a scrog btw?

it is also possible to do a bit of careful stem bending to slow up the tallest shoots.. maybe not advisable unless you watch a vid on doing this ..

can also tie back down fast growing stems by using padded wire to tie to pot handles or drill holes in pot .. this is a bit fiddly and ideally done before to prevent the stretch / plus even up the canopy

Good luck bro

Time to pop some more beans 😗

@chillbert Hi mate

The light is a spider farmer sf1000 and is currently 10 inches away from the tallest top in the tent. I could raise it a maximum of 8 inches higher.

I have performed very gentle “supercropping” style bends on the highest stems to try and slow them.

They have been Scroged but was about 2  weeks ago and they are way past it.

I think they will fit in there physically when they are done stretching but I wasn’t sure if the light being so close to the buds could be detrimental?

thanks for the help bud👍🏼

10 inches sounds a bit close. I know mars hydro recommend 12-18 inches for flower. Should be in the instructions that came with your light

@rufio I thought it might be mate but it’s the highest it can go on the ratchet pulleys. To get it higher I have to attach the board directly to the top support bars and that is as high as it can go.

its gunna be a tight one!😬

@southwestsmoker get ya now man, I shortened my light hangers but yours look a lot tighter than mine did so probably not an option.

you could get rid of the ratchets and just hang with wire or similar, won’t need much adjusting here on out. Might get you an Inch or two
