Hi

Any advice on complaining about 0 seed germination from a 10 pack not damping off just not cracking at all the other 10 packs have been patchy at best.  I don't want to name and shame at this stage, before giving them a chance to put it right, although I'm frustrated at the wasted time already.  Is there any way around the you shouldn't be germinating them, thing seed companies hide behind, I should consider before complaining.

I germed on damp tissue paper, if that's important.

Thanks

No seed bank really goes by that rule of they shouldn't be germinated mate. Any seed bank who says that to you when their seeds don't pop shouldn't be used. I have used many many seeds banks and breeders, and never really had a problem with germinating any of them

I dont mean to offend you here mate, but for 0 out of ten to pop, and also for other packs to be "patchy at best", I think the problem is more to do with your germination technique rather than the quality of the seeds. Even dodgy seeds out of some Hermie buds will pop at a better ratio than that.

When germinating, it is easy to let the paper towel dry out, or even over heat, especially when using a heated propagator or something.

Who was the seedbank mate?

And how are you germinating the seeds?

@oldskool whilst I was still a noob grower, I had problems with some seeds, only 1 of 10 germinated. It turned out that some post companies crash and press the packages either to fit more of them during transportation or because they actually suspect some "dodgy" business and they intentionally crash them seeds. I wasn't the first person that had happened too either. Luckily I could get free replacement.

@macky

I bought this collection from World of seeds, they were 10 packs so 40 seeds, they seem to have changed it to 5 per pack now.  I love land races and African sativas.  Given these are regular non fems it's pretty poor.

https://www.worldofseeds.com/wos_en/regular-pure-origin-collection.html
The Afghan Kush 0 out of 10
Kilimanjiro 1 out of 6, (4 unplanted)
Buba Haze 4 out of 4
Kwazulu 2 out of 4

Their free seeds were Afghan kush x Black domina 1 out of 2

also ordered Super Lemon Haze, 2 out of 3
Wedding cake 3 out of 3
Orange bud 3 out of 3

I don't think there's anything wrong with my germination process, works fine with home grown seed, though I don't care about losses so much with them.  The last three hybrids were from other seed houses but I still bought them from World of seed.

@galandil

That sucks, sorry you had that experience.  That hasn't happened here the seeds in the pack were in eppendorf tubes so shouldn't have happened.

I'll let you know how I get on.

@oldskool I do the same as u with the paper towel method, 5 seeds didn’t pop for me and after a bit of advise from the Don (Macky) aka the boss😂 my temperature for germination was to high and changed the dark place I was leaving them, to a cooler dark place and it was 5 for 5 again hopefully this might help u some😀 But I feel your pain when u pay for seeds and they don’t pop it’s annoying.

Ive done it too Fish, left seeds to germinate and they got too warm.

My personal favourite way to do it, is just plant them after soaking them for a couple of hours. No need for paper towel and all that any more. Thats from the old school days when seeds we unreliable.

This time round old skool, try soaking the seeds in water for a few hours, then just plant them into your soil/coco. Just a couple of centimetres below the surface. I then place a plastic cup over the top of it, to stop moisture exscaping easily. I sit that in the tent and wait, they always pop.

Give it a shot and let us know how you get on mate. I would get onto world of seeds and let them know about the problems you have had though. They may replace them.

Next time you buys seeds, go to the Vault man, they are the best 😉

Thanks @macky

I'll do the remaining seeds that way and see what happens.
